Imo State Governor – Owelle Rochas Okorocha

Owelle Rochas Okorocha, Imo State Governor, last Tuesday April 30, said that he has forgiven Chief Osita Nnawuihe, an indigene of Oru East Local Government Area, whose Mercedes Benz, rammed into the vehicle in which the governor was riding three weeks ago inflicting some head injury on the Imo Number One citizen.

The Governor, who bared his mind while addressing newsmen at the Government House Owerri, said that he was fine, healthy and grateful to God.

He confirmed that he actually had a minor accident that gave him a cut on the head, adding that he has undergone medical examinations abroad and the result indicated that there was no cause for fear and he is now back.

Owelle Okorocha also said that he took the opportunity of the medical trip to witness the Episcopal ordination of Msgr. Brian Udoigwe from Orlu Diocese who was appointed Titular Archbishop of Suelli and at the same time assigning him the office of the Apostolic Nuncio to Benin Republic.

According to him, the accident took place while he was on inspection at the Owerri/Orlu Road.  Though he was treated in a private hospital at Orlu when it happened but considering the fact that the injury occurred on his forehead, it was necessary to go abroad to a London hospital for a thorough check up.  He said that what happened to him can happen to any other person.

The Governor used the opportunity to advice motorists to be careful while driving and to avoid drinking alcohol while on the wheels.

The Governor, expressed gratitude to the people of Imo State for their concern and solidarity during the period.  He thanked members of the Imo State Executive Council for (keeping government going) during his absence.  He thanked the security agencies for ensuring that there was no breach of the peace or incidents of crime such as kidnapping, assassinations etc.

The Governor embraced Hon. Nnawuihe, whose car rammed into his and who was present at the press briefing.  Owelle Okorocha said that he was grateful to God for sparing his life too and that he had forgiven him.

The Governor, who  also asked the police to release him then announced a gift of N200,000 to enable Nnewuihe fix his damaged car and rehabilitate himself.

In his speech, Hon. Nnawuihe thanked the Governor for his love for him and his family.

It would be recalled that the governor’s vehicle was involved in an accident on Friday, April 19.  Information on how the crash occurred was scanty apart from the claim by Governor Okorocha’s aide that the Mercedes Benz car driver rammed into the Governor’s car.

The following week, Mrs. Callista Nnawuihe the wife of the driver who rammed his Mercedes Benz car into Governor Okorocha’s convoy pleaded with the recuperating governor to have mercy on her husband.

Mrs. Nnawuihe, pleaded with the governor who was then receiving treatment in London to order the release of her husband who was equally injured, to enable him get medical attention too.

Meanwhile commendations have continued to pour in for the Governor’s magnanimity, as demonstrated by his prompt release of Chief Nnawuihe and the donation for the rehabilitation of his car.
