Fitness & Nutrition

Our bodies are made up of between 50 – 70 % of water so we need to ensure that we keep hydrated to top up the water lost through breathing, sweating, our urine and bowel movements. The recommended amount is 2.5 litres a day, for those in hotter climates, if you exercise or are pregnant, you will need more.

· It flushes toxins out of your body and removes waste from the body.

· It hydrates your skin giving you a more youthful appearance.

· It helps to keep your metabolism functioning optimally hence you burn fat.

· It helps with weight management as it is calorie free.

· It helps to protect joints.

· It provides nutrients to your cells and organs.

· It regulates body temperature.

· It helps to protect your organs.

· It keeps you hydrated.

·It gives you energy and helps you to be alert and have better concentration.

The ideal way to obtain your water is by drinking it in its pure state without any additional sugar or calories. You can also obtain water from milk, fruit juice, some fruits and vegetables, tea and coffee for the last two it is not advisable to rely on these as being your sole provider of water.

Not drinking sufficient water leads to dehydration, headaches, tiredness, loss in concentration and sometimes results in kidney stones. Don’t wait till you are thirsty as this is already a sign that you are becoming dehydrated, take on some water at regular intervals to ensure you stay properly hydrated.
