President Goodluck Jonathan took the political combat yesterday when he visited Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, summoning that the Governor gives account of over 250Bn Naira grants of Kano 44 Local Government Areas since year 2011.

President Jonathan while speaking at a unity rally organized by the PDP to welcome to their fold from APC the erstwhile governor, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, maintained that his party the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are poised to clinch Kano from Kwankwaso and his All Progressive Congress Party – APC.

Meanwhile, the PDP rally took place at the popular Polo Ground in the city of the state, graced by multitudes of PDP party faithful and supports of Mallam Shakarau who lined up in the streets of the Kano state capital to welcome the president amidst tight security.

Governor Kwankwaso had on Monday in a press statement, encouraged the Kano people not to welcome President Jonathan as he said regretted voting for him in 2011, and remarked that the president has failed Nigerians. The governor marched his word with action by ensuring that none of Kano functionary welcomed the President and his entourage at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport.

President Jonathan shocked the Kano people when he said: “Kano people should call the 44 local government council chairmen and ask them what they have done in Kano State. Between June 2011 when we came into office and today, Kano Local Government Councils have received N255, 642,147,212.80.

The president remarked Governor Kwankwaso as a liar, observed that he never voted for him in 2011 election. In his words, the president said: “When we entered Eagles Square, by the time the counting got halfway, when it was clear that I was to emerge as the candidate, Kwankwaso left the venue of the ceremony.  If Kwankwaso had voted for me, he would have stayed on to celebrate with me like the other governors did.”

On the Nyanya Abuja Motor Park bombing, the president again expressed his condolence to the families of the victims, maintaining that terrorists would never stop the progress of his administration. Jonathan mentioned the various projects of his administration in Kano State harped on agriculture, infrastructure, and education.

Conversely, Gov.Musa Kwankwaso fired back at the President, saying President Jonathan was insensitive to the yearnings of Nigerians. He added that the president was busy with what he described as “merry-making trips when the nation should be mourning the Nyanya bomb-blast victims.

Kwankwaso continued: “The man came to Kano to smear our image but thank God, the man gave me free publicity by mentioning my name over 50 times in a 15 minute address”, blamed the President for promoting, and sustaining corruption, pointing out that despite the allegation of corruption against the Minister of Aviation and the alleged missing 20 billion USD oil funds, for instance, the President remained silent on such issues during his illegal campaign visit to Kano.
