Jubilee blessings for Ezinna & Nneoma Boniface Offurum Nwulu
It was a great day of blessings, 26th December 2016, as the golden jubilee celebration of Ezinna Boniface Offurum & Nneoma Bernadette Ada Nwulu winded down at St. Thomas Catholic Church Obinze, Archdiocese of Owerri.
The couple who wedded February 15th 1966, celebrated in the company of other jubilarians with the Archbishop, Most Rev. Anthony J.V. Obinna on December 3rd, 2016 at Maria Assumpta Cathedral, Owerri. Thereafter, the couple who hail from Ochia Autonomous Community in St. Joseph Catholic Parish Awarra Ohaji moved to St. Thomas Parish Obinze, their quasi-parish to celebrate with their children, grandchildren and other friends and relations. In this church, they renewed their marriage vows.
Speaking at the Holy Mass of renewal with the authority granted him by Rev. Fr. Fauster Echetama, the Parish Priest; the chief celebrant who happened to be a son of the couple, Rev. Fr. Samuel C. Offurum thanked God for the gift of their parents. He appreciated God for keeping Ezinna Boniface Offurum & Nneoma Bernadette Ada Nwulu strong and hearty in spite of the many crucibles that had come their way especially lately which, among many others had included the burning of their house and stealing of other properties. He mentioned specifically the death of their eldest daughter Engr. Mrs Chizomam Adimelechi which even though is the lot of all mortals but almost swept everyone in the family off their feet. The priest consoled his parents and siblings on that demise and also used the opportunities he had as chief celebrant to appreciate the presence of his brother-priests, religious and other guests who were on hand to celebrate with them.
Preaching the homily of the Mass, the Very Rev. Fr. Victor Eleba drove home the fact that God cannot abandon his own nor walk out from his promises. In his words, God could not have abandoned Ezinna and Nneoma through the storms of life that had come their way.
Fr. Eleba who is the Director of Catholic Education Commission, Archdiocese of Owerri and a onetime Parish Priest of the jubilarians at St. Joseph Catholic Parish Awarra, eulogised the couple for believing in themselves and through love and sacrifice brought up all their children in the fear of God. In the judgement of the homilist, the jubilarians were simply reaping the fruit of their labour and their avowed commitment to build up the lives of other people who were not even their biological children.
The homilist encouraged younger couples to emulate the great virtues of the jubilarians which he said were built on faithfulness to each other, commitment to their belief and love as these are indispensable qualities that can guarantee the unity and indissoluble properties of Christian marriage.
The first son of the couple, Hon.Dr. Chukwudi Nwulu was the Best Man of the celebrants while the daughter-in-law, Dr. (Mrs) Nina Nwulu was the Chief Bridesmaid. Dr. Chibuzor Nwulu coordinated the train while Engr.Dr. Chigozie Offurum was the Page Boy. Together with other children, grandchildren and relations a solid love-hedge was formed around the jubilarians during the ceremony which moved after the mass to their quasi-home.
