Rev. Prof. Asouzu Innocent celebrated the Holy Eucharist with an avalanche of Clerics at the consecration of the Holy Matrimony among seven couples at St. Joseph’s Chaplaincy, Imo State University, Owerri on Saturday 29th April 2017.

Among the concelebrants included Rev. Prof. Jerome Okonkwo (Homilist), Rev. Dr. Anthony Njoku (Chaplain), Rev. Frs. Emma Nwachukwu, Christian Obioha, Tony Ezekwe, Victor Chukwuma, Anthony Eziefule, Associate Prof. Uche Clement, and Rev. Prof. Ejiogu E. Amaku.

In his brief homily, Rev. Prof Jerome Okonkwo expressed profound appreciation to the retinue of priests, the chaplain, the couples, the congregation, the religious and the choir.

He put a rhetorical question on who among the congregation is perfect?; in the absence of affirmative response, the homilist admonished the couples to love each other and learn to endure and tolerate each other as man’s imperfection began with Adam and Eve, the cradle of humanity.

According to him, it was when Adam and Eve sinned by eating the forbidden fruit that they discovered that they were naked. He posited that man is the head of the family as Christ is the head of the church. According to him, women ensure that they control their hair.

Rev. Prof. Okonkwo went philosophical referencing Prof Chinweizu on the “3 powers of the woman” which comprises: Power of the womb; the power of the tongue and cradle and the awesome power of the kitchen. He advised married couples to pray together and be faithful.

Rev. Fr. Dr. Anthony Njoku consecrated the wedding after the vows and rites of Holy Matrimony. The tying of the nuptial knot between Victoria Ugochi Ugochukwu of Umudibia Umualumaku- Umueze Autonomous Community Ehime Mbano LGA of Imo State  Engr. Bernard Azuwuike Ezem of Amawom, Owerri West LGA was thereafter solemnized.

The Leader spoke to sponsors at the wedding, Sir and Lady Ifeanyi Chukwunyelu. According to them, the new couple must put God first in all they do. He prayed God to bless them with good health, love and resources to run their family.

In her contribution, Lady W. C. Ugochukwu, mother of the bride, expressed profound gratitude to God and prayed that the couple  may find favour with God. In their brief remarks, Chief Collins, Nwachukwu (KSJI) and Dr. F.C. Ezem aligned themselves with the views of the homilist that marriage is not a bed of roses.

Among the creme de Ia crème of the contemporary society present at the event include Mrs. Beatrice Nwachukwu, Engr. Patrick Abaneme, Hon. Commissioner ISOPADEC, Mrs. Agatha Ezem, Benard Ezem and Chukwunyere Ifeanyi.
