Catholic youths have been viewed as the hope of the Church just as culture remains one of the glaring definitive features of man.

In the light of this celebrated facts, the Catholic Youth Organization of St Brendan’s Catholic Parish Amakohia Ikeduru saw the necessity to appreciate the Catholic Church and celebrate her cultural identity and heritage in this year’s youth/cultural week with the theme “Cut off from me, you can do nothing” (John 15:5).

Sunday 13th August 2017 ushered in the flag off which was done by His Royal Highness Eze Dr Innocent Umunnakwe Alaribe Eze Oha III Amakohia Autonomous Community accompanied by Dr Sir Aloysius Eke & Ezinne Fidelia Iwuji Patron and Matron of CYON. Other activities followed such as talk on Histoculture, by Mr. Peterclaver lbe, The Youth and the Church, by Rev. Fr. Justin Diaku CYON chaplain, adoration, cultural patrol, excursion, cooking workshop, quiz, and beauty contest amongst others. The event equally saw the presentation of awards to 10 persons.

Speaking during the Mass of thanksgiving on the grand finale, the parish priest Rev. Fr. Dr. Edmund Njoku pointed out the importance of the key which was shown in the gospel of the day. He further stressed that a key can only be given to a trustworthy person, which also means that we have been given a responsibility to take charge and to take care of that which has been entrusted under our care which is the Church and be careful not to abuse it. He also lamented on how easily we lose focus on God when faced with challenges, we should focus and trust in God than in man.

In conclusion  he said instead of asking who do people say I am, the question should be who does God  say I am?, that God’s judgement supersedes human  judgement. He thanked the youths who participated actively and urged the parents to put more efforts towards allowing, encouraging and propelling their children to be active both in the service of God and humanity.

He also advised the youths to desist from all immoral acts including hard drugs, gambling, and fornication; and get very much familiar with God and the things of God. He prayed God’s blessing, increase in faith, number and to be good ambassadors of Christ and the church.

The peak of the celebration was presentation of award to His Excellency Gen. C.R.U. Ihekire (rtd), Rev. Fr. JohnPaul Igbokwe, Mr. Larry C.O. Diala amongst others, coronation of Master Daniel Ugo (Master CYON), Miss Amarachi Opara (Miss CYON),  Master Chibugonnam Iheriohanma, and Chukwukadibia Njemenze (CYON Princes), Miss Princess Azuoma and Adaeze Obi (CYON Princesses).

The president Bro. Ambrose Oguariri in his vote of thanks, thanked God for making the occasion a success, and urged his fellow youths to hold firm the theme of the Youth week celebration for with Christ everything good will be possible in our lives.
