Swift Share!

Friday November 17, 2017 was a day of joy for the inmates of the motherless Babies Home Emekuku, run by the congregation of the Holy Child Jesus, as the Owerri Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women organization (OACCWO) paid them a charity visit.

The executive of the council, who were led on the visit by their president, Lady (Mrs.) Stella Acholonu, donated several utility items such as, bag of Rice, Beans and garri as well as tubers of yam, beverages, noodles, groundnut oil, pampers and toiletries for the babies. The women on arrival were received by the Director of the Home, Rev. Sr. Francisca Opara who also conducted them round to see the helpless babies. Welcoming their benefactors, Sr. Opara explained that the incidence of motherless Babies has been on the increase in recent times due to rise in moral decadence among young girls who owing to their loose character, get impregnated by men who are not ready to accept them as  wives. Consequently, such girls abandon their babies especially when their Parents had rejected them. When such helpless babies are brought to the motherless babies Home, the Sisters have no choice than to accept them and care for them in order to save lives.”

Sr. Opara noted that the increasing hardship arising from the prevailing economic recession had not helped matters. She further explained that some of the babies were those whose mother’s died after delivering them and because their fathers were unable to nurse them, they were brought to the Reverend Sisters to cater for. She expressed immense gratitude to the Catholic women for their love and generosity and prayed God to reward them abundantly.

Speaking earlier, Lady Acholonu, the OACCWO president told Sr. Opara that the women were touched by the plight of the motherless babies and had brought those essential commodities to help out. She commended the Congregation for the charity work they were doing for humanity, urged them to keep it up and prayed God to continue to strengthen and reward them.
