The Catholic Women Organization (CWO), St. Andrew’s Parish Umueshi, Ideato South L.G.A, in the spirit of the New Year celebration conferred 27 of their members with Ezinne Merit Award, in recognition of their contributions to the growth of the church and maintenance of peace, both in their families and the society at large.

In a homily, the Assistant Parish Priest, Rev Fr. Julius Ohiagbe (CMF) described the title of Ezinne as recognition of  distinguished women who have in so many ways discharged their primary responsibilities creditably.

He said that it is an honour to women of faith, who are known for their humility, love to their fellow human beings and the role they have played in their various families. Fr. Ohiaebe noted that it is only those who have fulfilled the prerequisite of the Merit Award that will be honoured by the church, adding that the church itself does not give such prestigious award to those with questionable character. He urged the awardees to continue to live such a life that justifies the choice of them for the honour.

In an address, the Parish CWO President, Ezinne Chigozie Duru (Odiuko na Mba) described the day as a special one among the conferees, being the third Meritorious Conferment of Ezinne Award in the parish. She commended the parish priest, Rev Fr. Declan Ugorji for the infrastructural development and his evangelical work, which have increased the spiritual life of the parishioners.

Ezinne Duru further applauded him for his wonderful initiative in organizing the conferment of Ezinne Merit Award on some deserving mothers. She seized the opportunity to thank all who contributed towards the success of the event, especially the executives.

Earlier in his speech, the parish priest, Rev Fr. Declan Ugorji described the honour as well deserved, haven selected women from different communities after a rigorous screening and recommendation from where they came from. He maintained that good mothers are known by their lifestyle, character both in their families, the church and work place.

Fr. Ugorji enjoined both the old and new awardees of Ezinne title to live up to expectation, while reminding them that with the conferred on them, they now have more responsibilities.

The highpoint of the event was the decoration and presentation of certificates to the awardees.
