…As couple marks diamond marriage anniversary

A thing of beauty, they say is a thing of joy forever. This is true and it’s why we’ve come to thank God for the gift of this couple. Their faith in marriage for these sixty years remains a mystery, and we have every reason to see them as living examples of marriage vow.

This eulogizing phrase by Rev. Fr. Remigius Ihim, Parish Priest, St. Jude’s Catholic Church Naze, Owerri North LGA formed part of introductory words at a Eucharistic ceremony held in honor of the 60th Marriage Anniversary of Ugwunna Cyril & Nnepuruche Regina Udeh, Saturday February 10.

The couple who hail from Umuorie Naze did not hide their joy as they arrived the worship centre. In thanksgiving to God for the gift of life and that of their marriage friends, in-laws, business associates, well wishers as well as their nine children who are well established in various fields of life endeavors joined them in celebrating 60 years of love and fidelity.

The parish priest was assisted at the Mass by Rev. Frs. Donald Nwosu (Assistant Parish Priest), Benard Oleru MSP, and Eze Obioma, former parish priest.

Delivering homily, Fr. Oleru described the occasion as a promise of God fulfilled. “This is the reality and fulfillment of the Bible,” he said while praising the zeal and spirited efforts of the couple kept alive these years of married life. The indigenous priest who expressed conviction over the religious faith of the two observed with delight that the community’s history of Christianity would not be straight without the mention of Pa Cyril Udeh and wife.

Urging the younger ones to emulate such dedicated character, Fr. Oleru announced that the two have succeeded in defying the monster of infidelity which continued to plague various marriages of the present generation.

Since the Church deems at this stage of marriage unnecessary to carry out the formal renewal of marriage vows, Fr. Obioma shortly before the end of the Mass imparted them with the special blessings of good health and longevity of life. In doing such he recalled with nostalgic feelings how he pioneered the parish with the help of the couple, and urged their children to borrow the leaf.

The event continued at the family compound where the couple before the watchful eyes of their children, grandchildren as well as guests cut their wedding anniversary cake.
