It was a joyful day at St Mary’s Catholic Parish Eziobodo Owerri West L.G.A., April 8, 2018 as the Christian mothers joined their counterparts across the country to celebrate this year’s Mother’s day.

The first phase of the occasion started with a Eucharistic Mass presided over by the parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Vernatius Ukachukwu.

Delivering the homily, Fr. Ukachukwu said that one of the reasons for the gathering was to thank God for the gift of motherhood. He encouraged mothers to imitate the Blessed Virgin Mary as a role model. He advised the youths to always appreciate their mothers likewise husbands to appreciate their wives

The Parish Priest also said that as we are celebrating our mothers today, we are also celebrating the divine mercy of God. He admonished Catholics to always seek divine mercy through the sacrament of reconciliation and penance.

After the liturgy of the Eucharist, the 2018 Mother’s Day Unity Cake was cut. In his remarks, the Parish Council Chairman Surv. Kingsley Chieke welcomed all guests to the celebration and urged all to support our mothers.

Some of the highlights of the occasion include, fund raising and presentation of awards to deserving awardees. Twelve awardees honoured with various categories of titles. One of the awardees Mrs. Georginia Ajoku, an indigent blind widow and a full member of the C.W.O Eziobodo Parish was presented with an award of “Nne Nwere Okwukwe” because of her steadfastness to Catholic faith regardless of her impediment.

Dr Iwunze, the husband of Mrs. Iwunze Edith eulogized the Parish Priest, Fr. Vernatius Ukachukwu and the entire Parishioners for the level of work on the church building.

In her closing remark, the president of C.W.O St. Mary’s Parish Eziobodo Mrs Ndukwu Ijeoma thanked the Parish Priest, parishioners, guests, friends and well-wishers for their support which contributed to the success of 2018 mother’s day celebration.
