It was celebration galore, Saturday April 28 at Amaimo in the Ikeduru LGA, when the cream of the community, well wishers and friends from far and near converged to share in the joy of Sir Celestine Ejike Ibe and Lady Esther Chiawuotu, who were celebrating 25 years of their marriage.

Rev. Fr. (Prof) John Obilor the Spiritual Adviser of St. Michael Commandery 539 Akabo, Knights of St. John International to which the couple belongs, who presided at the Holy Mass to mark the occasion, concelebrated with over 15 other priests. Venue was St. Columba Catholic Parish Amaimo. Preaching the homily, Rev. Fr. Nich Nwachukwu described the Jubilarians as an ideal couple and a symbol of a successful marriage. He called on those who experience challenges in their marriage to look up to exemplary Christian couples like Celestine and Esther. “When husband and wife bring God into their relationship, their marriage is always sweet because God is at the center”, he assured. The priest said that the children of the family have imbibed noble Christian values and it is paying off in their lives. He testified that the children of Celestine and Esther are not only good Catholics but also communicants.

It would be recalled that Noble Bro (Dr.) Oliver Ibe, (former Worthy President of St. Michael commandery 539 Knights of St. John International KSJI) Akabo and his wife, Noble Lady Bibiana were the couple’s sponsors. The high point of the Jubilee Mass was the renewal of consent and blessing of the silver Jubilee rings which the couple exchanged. Speaking at the end of the mass, the parish priest Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Oparaugo described Celestine and Esther as exemplary knight and lady of the church. Then followed the muster of knights and ladies of St. John International at the nearby school field where the couple inspected a Guard of Honor mounted on their behalf, in line with the practices of the Ancient and Noble Order.

Colonel (Noble) Cele Ozuzu, the Chavelir Grand Master, a former Worthy President of KSJI 539 Akabo commanded the military team, assisted by KSJI District 8 commander, Major (Engr.) Fidelis Akuchie.

The last phase of the celebration was the reception held at the country home of the Jubilarians. Hon. Justice Lambert Azuama, chairman of the occasion, in his opening remarks, commended the couple for their 25years of exemplary Christian marriage. He prayed God to protect them to live to celebrate their Golden Jubilee too. The legal luminary was full of praises for Celestine and Esther for grooming well their children who carried out the readings during the Holy Mass in Igbo language. Others who spoke also listed the shinning qualities of the couple. Such speakers included Prof. Okwujiako, who was the sponsor of the couple when they wedded in 1993. The climax of this phase of the celebration was the seeking, obtaining and cutting the silver Jubilee cake with the sword of knights of St. John International. Guests were sumptuosly fed with food and drinks after which they presented their gifts to the couple and received the silver Jubilee souvenirs in return. In his response, Chief Sir Ibe expressed unalloyed gratitude to God and all those He used to make such a great day possible and thanked all who came to share their joy.

A brief nuptial profile of the couple stated that their success was based on truth, humility, patience and transparency.
