The ground breaking ceremony of Sacred Heart Catholic Church building, Umunomo Ihitteaforukwu, Ahiara Diocese was held recently, with blessing of the site conducted by Rev. Fr. Isaac Njoku, Parish Priest of St. Charles Catholic Church Ogbor Ihitteaforukwu.

The Chairman of the Building Committee, Chief Stanley Okeafor, senior lecturer Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education Owerri, told The Leader that the station church will help bring place of worship nearer to Umunomo Catholic faithful.

Chief Okeafor extolled the natives for their compassion and dogged determination to build a befitting place of worship. He eulogized Rev. Fr. Isaac Njoku for ensuring that mass holds at the construction site every Sunday. He also paid glowing encomium on the members of the Building Committee who included; Comrade Nzenwata Francis, Engr. Martins Ibe, Hon. Magnus Chigbu, Mr. Ambrose Ekechukwu, and others for their hardwork, steadfastness and sacrifices in executing the project which is gathering momentum.

He harped on the need for all hands to be on deck so that their aspiration is met and the project completed on time according to design and specification.

Ezinna Francis Nzenwata, one of the building committee members and State Chairman, Joint Health Sector Unions, said the project will cost over Twenty Five Million naira, adding that it’s being financed through free will donations, even though that they were planning for fund raising to fast-track the project.


He expressed profound gratitude to natives, the project committee and Rev. Fr. Isaac Njoku for his commitment to the project and for ensuring devotion and celebration of Mass at the site.

Ezinne Nzenwata corroborated the view of the chairman of the building committee concerning their desire to build a school, a befitting hall, a grotto, the Father’s House, a chapel and perimeter fence of the complex.

He harped on the benefit of building a place of worship not only in Mbaise but also in Owerri and all other places. He believed that the more one gives in service to God and humanity, the more blessings one gets, aligning himself with the scriptures that the measure you give, is also the measure you receive. He alludes that those who build for the Lord store treasures in heaven and on earth and their blessings will be uncountable as the stars and the sands of the earth.
