…Fr Nnajiemere harps on truthfulness, uprightness

In line with the Church’s liturgical calendar to commemorate hallowed men and women whose lives and times contributed in shaping the Christian faith, members of the Catholic Men Organization (CMO), St. John’s Catholic Parish Umunahu Uratta Owerri North LGA joyfully joined their counterparts across the country in marking this year’s Feast of their Patron, Saint Joseph.

The feast which came up last Sunday and celebrated in the newly elevated parish as maiden edition was kick-started with a Eucharistic celebration presided by the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Betrand Nnajiemere.

While delivering homily at the Mass, Fr. Nnajiemere admonished the faithful to live a life of truthfulness and righteousness, stressing that such virtues remain veritable tools to gain favor in God’s sight.

Pointing out that the blessings of God knows no bounds, the parish priest maintained that those who yearn for God’s favor should in turn avail themselves the opportunity to be worthy recipients. This he said they would do by loving one another. “As Christians we’re called to be like Christ. And for us to be like Christ we must show unconditional love to our fellow man”, he noted.

Turning to the celebrating fathers, the priest reminded them that part of their responsibility as leaders of families was to cultivate the virtue of impartiality, adding that such attribute would help them discharge their role as fathers without prejudice. “In a moment of stalemate please stamp your feet and remain on the side of truth. When adjudicating on nagging issues such as shearing of land, please employ your leadership acumen, remain resolute in judgment and never be impartial”, the preacher cautioned.

An address of welcome signed by the organization’s Parish President, Mr. Damian Nnadi expressed gratitude to God for allowing them to witness another feast day of their patron saint. He said the ceremony was another channel to appreciating the role fathers play in families and society. He said “The role of fathers cannot be ignored in the families as they occupy vital position in the upbringing of their children”.

Recognizing the enormity of piloting the affairs of a religious organization which attained parish status recently, Mr. Nnadi commended the supportive role of their parish priest and thanked his fellow members for their love and enthusiasm. Members of the Planning Committee included Mr. George Igwe as Chairman, Comr. Stanislaus Njoku as Secretary and others.

Our reporter said the feast day activities which featured awards of recognition conferred on about 15 members of the CMO began three days earlier with retreat and novelty football match between CMO and CYOM members. The match ended two goals to one in favor of the CYON team.
