As politics tops discussions in the country in view of the next general election which is already at the corner, Christian fathers have been called upon to retrieve from the jaws of impunity the image of Nigeria’s politics by bringing their Christian faith to bear. This was even as they were told to engage in active politics so as to effect changes to the present-day political narrative of the country.

Vicar General, Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri, Very Rev. Fr. Patrick Ibole dropped the hints at St. Michael’s Catholic Parish Amakohia, Uratta Owerri North LGA when members of the Catholic Men Organization (CMO), joined their counterparts in various worshipping centers in celebrating this year’s feast of their Patron, St. Joseph, Sunday May 6.

Fr. Ibole who is also the parish priest used the admonition as introductory part of the Eucharistic celebration that began the feast day event.

Preaching at the Mass, Assistant parish priest, Rev. Fr. Hipolitus Onyema said the tender hand of God’s love remains something that may not be easily wished away from the life of man. Guided by the day’s readings which centered on love, Fr. Onyema noted that “love of God does not only come in kind, it also comes with chastisement. This is the love the Father gives and it does not come without its commiserate responsibility,” the priest stated.

Fr. Onyema who informed the CMO members that partaking in the friendship of Christ was a solemn call that requires good sense of duty, maintained that every member was chosen to represent Christ. “Jesus chose us to be his ambassador and advertisement,” the preacher preached, adding that such privileges entail going into the world not just to conquer and dominate but also to represent Christ. This he stressed should traverse every aspect of human endeavor, including active participation in Nigeria’s politics for the betterment of the society.

As it was part of the CMO itinerary to appreciate the starling efforts of her members, particularly those who distinguished themselves in various capacities for the growth and development of the religious body, “2018 CMO-Day Ugonna Merit Award” was bestowed on Chief Dr. Gabriel Nwosu, Oha Sabinus Odionyenma, Chief Innocent Nze and Dr. C.O. Ezekwesiri. The honor was in return appreciated by family members, friends and well-wishers of the recipients.

Presenting his address of welcome at the reception ground where the event shifted shortly after the Mass, Comrade Val Udenko, Parish CMO President was happy to have his fellow members celebrating their Patron Saint in one accord. He described the event as a “period we reflect on the life of our Patron Saint, St. Joseph.

Speaking on the theme of this year’s event “Christian Fathers, the pillars of families”, the new CMO leader who acknowledged that the ceremony was the first official outing of his led administration, reminded his fellow members and Nigerian electorates at large the need to enthrone enduring democracy by electing credible people into political offices. He further thanked their parish priest and his Assistant for their pastoral leadership, wishing well those who contributed for the success of the event.

On their part, Comr. John Emeana and Ernest Nnanabu, Esq Chairman and Secretary Planning Committee respectively in their separate speeches expressed happiness with the level of cooperation shown by fellow members.

They commended their guests and prayed for their God’s continued blessings.

The colorful event featured among others retreat, drama, cultural dance and novelty football match.
