Sad! Heartland FM loses Eddy Anyanwu

The death has been announced of Mr. Eddy Anyanwu of Heartland FM (Radio Nigeria) Owerri. Mr. Anyanwu aged 55, was said to have collapsed after delivering a speech during a public function in Owerri and died later in the hospital.   The renowned Igbo presenter, from Mbaise, was known for his popular radio program where he usually introduced himself as “Eddy Anyanwu, Onye Nkwaaaa”.   A good Catholic, the post he shared with his friends on facebook on this year’s Ash Wednesday was, “Happy new month, I hope you have received the Ash, Happy Lenten season.”   A former chairman…

NFF unveils three-day burial programme for Keshi

THE Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has unveiled a three day burial programme for late Super Eagles gaffer, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi. The soccer federation after a meeting with the Keshi family yesterday in Abuja agreed that the burial rites of the coach would run from July 27-29. According to a competent source at the meeting, the burial activities will start in Abuja on the 27th, move to Benin on the 28th and rounded off on the 29th in Illah, his Delta State ancestral home, where he would be commit- ted to mother earth. Msgr. Chigbu is dead

The Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri has announced the death of Msgr. Clement Chigbu. He died on Monday January 4, 2016. He was ordained priest on 21st December 1963. A press release issued by the Chancellor/Secretary of the Archdiocese, Rev Fr Alphonsus Oha said the funeral programme begins on Thursday January 14 with evening Mass at St. Mulumba Catholic Parish, Wetheral Road Owerri at 4.30pm. His remains will be interred on Friday January 15 after a funeral Mass at Maria Assumpta Cathedral Owerri at 10am. May his soul rest in peace.

Dr. Sam Madugba is dead

  The death has been announced of Dr. Samuel Iheanacho Madugba, a former Health Columnist with The Leader newspaper. He died suddenly on Wednesday, July 29. Dr. Hyacinth Emele, Chairman, Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Imo State confirmed the death in a telephone interview with our reporter. Born on September 17, 1961, Dr. Madugba, a prolific writer,  poet and human rights activist, was a Director in the Public Health/Primary Health Care Department of Imo State Ministry of Health.   The death has been announced of Mr. Francis Okoro. He died on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 after a very brief illness. He was aged 68. Mazi Okoro was the Personal Secretary to late Bishop Mark Unegbu, Catholic Bishop of Owerri.   The Catholic Diocese of Okigwe has lost two of her priests to death, namely Rev. Fr. Oliver Okeke, who died on Thursday, April 16 and Rev. Fr. Ahiara Diocese loses Rev. Fr. Dom Igwe

Ahiara Diocese has lost one of her elderly priests, Rev. Fr. Dominic Igwe who resided at St. Thomas Parish, Eziudo Ezinihitte.  The death came on Friday, April 24, 2015 at Holy Rosary Hospital Ogbor Nguru, Aboh Mbaise after a protracted illness. Fr. Igwe was a captain during the Nigeria/Biafra war and gave devoted service to the nation.  He served in so many parishes as parish priest including St. Thomas Parish, Eziudo until he became incapacitated by illness. INEC extends PVCs distribution to March 8

Following the rescheduling of the 2015 general election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has once again extended the deadline for collection of permanent voters’ cards (PVCs) by registered voting to March 8.
