Leadership by example: Barack Obama the great…Elsewhere in America (6)

(11) OBAMA THE GREAT AND THE REST OF HUMANITY   As OBAMA took his exit from the political arena of American democracy there aren’t just a few who paid their glowing tributes to the great president of the United States. Look at a few ‘comments’ or ‘tributes’ by thousands of individuals who see and think about OBAMA as I do. JUST A FEW OF THE SELECTED QUOTES!   (i)   “Being English, I may see things from a totally different perspective! I see a President who, being thoroughly graceful, has done a great job. Hadn’t he lowered your deficit in an…

(7) GREAT FAMILY MAN: Husband and Father: One blissful successful marriage with one of the best mothers and wives in the history of marriage encounter. It seemed that right from birth God set them aside and prepared them to join together to become a paradigm of what married life is all about. Unlike most other turbulent marriages in modern times, no divorces and divorce suits and re-marriages, no suspicions with regard to extramarital affairs! Behold too, Michele Obama, the perfect wife and match of her life partner. The Igbo people of Nigeria would address her as “Oyiridiya” (carbon copy of…

(4) MATTERS OF THE HEART: ACCOMMODATION AND TOLERANCE:   Christians, Jews, Moslems, Buddhists, Non-believers, name them, peoples of different faiths, tongues and beliefs, should live together and respect each other’s beliefs and culture. Even gays, lesbians and other men and women of different sexual orientation, views and attitudes, have place in society and communities of the world. America is a nation of immigrants and should therefore find ways to accommodate new arrivals as well as refugees. Center of Obama social agenda is no doubt ‘equality and social justice’. There is no doubt that Obama has been criticized for being the…

(2) POWERFUL: Power does not rest only in physical strength or stamina. Obama as president was able to withstand the overwhelming vicious attacks of his numerous enemies mostly the white racists and bigots who swore from day one to oppose all his policies, to UNDO ALL HIS LEGACIES! They fought tooth and nail to derail or destabilize any project he initiated “to make America even greater than what the nation was before he assumed office”. They questioned even his birth certificate and American citizenship! Barack OBAMA did not shake. He stood his ground and completed his tenure gracefully and in…

“THE GREAT!” WHY? We can read their history to know why they deserved such a rare merit award: “The Great”. A few examples can serve: (a) Pope Saint Gregory I (c. 540 – 12 March 604), commonly known as Saint Gregory the Great, pope of the Catholic Church, is famous for instigating the first recorded large-scale mission from Rome to convert a pagan people to Christianity.  Gregory is also well known for his writings, which were more prolific than those of any of his predecessors as pope. He is also known as the Great Visionary of Modern Educational System, for…

IN RETROSPECT: It is actually the title of that my book “Only in Nigeria …….Elsewhere in America” (copies always available at the ASSUMPTA Bookshop, Owerri, Nigeria) that gave rise and meaning to this regular column in the LEADER newspaper – ONLY IN NIGERIA! A lot of Leader Newspaper readers, hard copy and Online, have encouraged me not to drop this my important contribution geared towards creating awareness and especially initiating discussions on most crucial issues, political and ecclesiastical, that touch the lives of Nigerians, home and in the diaspora. I appreciate readers’ reactions and welcome ‘rejoinders’ and follow-ups’. It is…

CANONIZATION OF CYPRAIN IWENE TANSI: WHY THE DELAY? (3)

Read from the previous CANONIZATION OF CYPRAIN IWENE TANSI: WHY THE DELAY? (2) 2) TESTIMONIES & CONTRIBUTIONS Popular evidence as well as undeniable testimonies from historical facts can influence canonization of saints. We have such examples in stories of persecutions of Christians and death of Christians which  the church call martyrs. Such testimonies in the past and present times about wicked kings like HEROD, NERO or KING OF UGANDA, surely played major role in the canonizations JOHN THE BAPTIST and some of the apostles, the MARTYRS OF ROME AND UGANDA. Popular stories gave strong and emotional descriptions of the deaths…

WHY THE TUMULT! Why should one raise an alarm that may cause chaos and  violent agitation of mind and feelings, and possible misunderstanding of motivations !! Why is this priest (present writer) raising questions about the ‘so-called canonization of CYRIAN IWENE TANSI?’  Is it his business? Is he bishop or pope? Why even does he worry about the situation of the church in AHIARA/MBAISE or the APPOINTMENT OF NEW BISHOP OF ABA DIOCESE? Is this man (present writer) crazy or is he looking for cheap popularity? What does he gain by delving into contentious matters that do not concern him??…

“ROCHAS ANAYO OKOROCHA & CO EXPOSED ” (4)

VIRTUES VS VICES – FRUITS OF OBSTINACY “Obstinate” simply means refusing to change behavior or ideas; perversely adhering to an opinion, purpose or course in spite of reason, arguments or persuasion. When we battle with our ambitions and vices we try normally not to allow the vices to outweigh the virtues. Credible leaders of the people – political and traditional -must always listen to the voice of reason and listen to the admonitions, counsels of the elders.   When the devastations arising from Rochas infrastructural and road projects in many parts of Imo state, including new and uncompleted projects…

If I were Rochas Anayo Okorocha ……. Immediately Rochas was confirmed governor of Imo state after the re-run of the so called ‘inconclusive elections’ in 2011 I set out writing news talks advising the governor in my little capacity as a compatriot, lover of Ndigbo and Rochas fanatic what he should do. “Now that the elections had been won and lost……Which Way Forward? History will never change as one would ask right now April 25th 2015!! Hear me……That was in 2011. I reproduce some of my “recommendations” then….. If I were Owelle Okoroocha, I would capitalize on the overwhelming…

WHAT HAPPENDED – AFTER 3 YEARS – THE BOOK WAS NOT LAUNCHED!! I met Governor Rochas and personal assistants at least six times to find out what had happened to the book! No meaningful explanation of what was going on. Most of my friends who got worried urged me to meet him personally. I summoned courage and met him one day in his global office. “Sir I wonder…..(Rochas) ….Oh! Father, I am sorry…….(called different aids and secretaries, scolded some….and regretted something had not been done? (Fr. Ndiokwere), Sir I didn’t write that book to make money. No!! I don’t…

“ROCHAS ANAYO OKOROCHA & CO. EXPOSED “

Rochas Anayo Okorocha is still on Trial! His political aspiration is bright if he understands now and well what it takes to add the title “Great” to his name. The man is ambitious and willing to fight and lead NDIGBO. Political affiliation has no place in the mission and project. When I told one of my closest friends about the present write-up, which I intended to get published in Nigerian newspapers and on the Internet; he was so happy and encouraged me to go ahead. He suggested the above title – “Rochas Anayo Okorocha Exposed”. But I was not…

EBOLA FREE NIGERIA!! – THE TRUTH OF THE MATTER (4)

“When Yahweh delivered Zion from bondage we were like in a dream. Then our mouths were filled with laughter and our tongues with shouts of joy. Then it was said among the nations “The Lord had done great things for us and we rejoiced”. Restore our fortunes O Lord!  Like the waters in the Negeb. May those who sow in tears reap with shouts of joy. Those who go out weeping bearing the seed for sowing shall come home with shouts of joy carrying their sheaves!” (Psalm 126: 1-6)   Fruits of the counsel Elsewhere, except in Nigeria, this conventional…

Addressing The Kidnapping Problem In Nigeria (6)

Let winners take note. Nigerians are very critical, unforgiving, often merciless in judgment, easily disappointed, very impatient with their leaders. Very soon you may hear “regrets”, “Had we known”. Winners should remember how the people (the Israelites) murmured against Moses: “Why did you bring us out here to die. Why did you bring us out here, no water, no food…….It would have been better to die in Egypt as slaves….! Winners, if you do not perform from ‘Day One’, Nigerians will murmur. If you procrastinate, they will grumble!…….. Coming to the concretes, the writer addressed the president:   President, Goodluck…

Swimming: Where in the vast area and 36 states of Nigeria could Nigerians sports officials go for the best swimmers? Not in the Delta, Bayalsa, and Rivers states? Many ‘magic swimmers’ are said to feature in Sokoto and some Northern state where diving and fishing competitions are regular sports in Nigeria. Unless it is a fairy tale, stories circulate about Nigerian young men and women from these communities who can swim like fish and remain under the waters of the river Nigeria and Benue and the wide Atlantic ocean for hours. Nigerian sports officials should cast their nets deep into…

Addressing The Kidnapping Problem In Nigeria (4)

(6)    LONG TERM SOLUTIONS? There was unanimous agreement during the international conference that one of the best ways of eradicating evil, especially all juvenile related crimes, including kidnapping is the creation of jobs for the teeming population of youths roaming the streets of big cities in Nigeria. There is great need, too, to create sports opportunities for young Nigerians. Gainfully dedicated youths who derive both leisure and financial gains in sports and games will find less or no time for crime. Most successful ones eventually become role models in society. It is sad to note that more than one-third of…
