MESSAGE OF HIS HOLINESS POPE FRANCIS FOR 2018 WORLD COMMUNICATIONS DAY

Pope's message at the 2018 World communication day

Fake news and journalism for peace “The truth will set you free” (Jn. 8:32) Dear Brothers and Sisters, Communication is part of God’s plan for us and an essential way to experience fellowship. Made in the image and likeness of our Creator, we are able to express and share all that is true, good, and beautiful. We are able to describe our own experiences and the world around us, and thus to create historical memory and the understanding of events. But when we yield to our own pride and selfishness, we can also distort the way we use our…

Nationizing Nigeria: A 2016 New Year Message for Nigeria

Glad tidings of great joy I bring to you and all mankind The Nativity of Jesus Christ celebrated just a week ago speaks directly to Nigeria in a special way. By January 14 2016 Nigeria will mark the 102nd anniversary of its amalgamation into one political entity from the multiple ethnic nationalities that the British colonial government forcefully cobbled into the northern and southern protectorates and then into one Nigeria. As we thus look forward to that anniversary of our cobbled nation since 1914 in the face of continuing bloodshed, inter-ethnic tension, uneasy public relationships, suspicious and subtle moves and…

You See This Child: A 2015 Christmas Message

As it was at the birth of Jesus two thousand and fifteen years ago so in many ways it still is in our own day. At that time Caesar the Roman Emperor was ruling a large part of the then known world of Europe, Palestine and Mediterranean Africa with his governors, sub-governors and soldiers everywhere. Tax-collectors, migrants and slaves were very visible. Wars and fights were continuously raging. When eventually Jesus was born he could only find space and quiet in a manger away from the noisy town and village world. As Jesus is re-born in our hearts, church and…

In our last edition, we published Archbishop Obinna’s Press Release entitled: “The Facts About Imo State Finances”, in which he indicted the Administration of the Imo State Military administrator, Col. Bishops Bar Knights from wearing headgears in Church

Pastoral Directives on Participation at Liturgical Ceremonies by Knights and Church Paramilitary Personnel INTRODUCTION The Catholic Church has always recognized the important role of her non clerical members in liturgical celebrations. It is a long time practice that every person rightly plays the roles suited to his or her state in the Church at liturgical ceremonies. In order that our liturgy does not become mere social celebrations, the Church gave the General Instruction on the Roman Missal (GIRM). The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) desires to keep to the rubrics and maintain the solemnity that is needed at liturgical…

CHARLY BOY SAGA: Open letter to Okorocha’s media aide, Sam Onwuamaedo

One begins to wonder why a governor will be attending a burial service with not less than 30 peasant women, more than 50 students under the APC students group called NUISS, and when his name is called, even inside the church, all you will hear is “Owelleeee”. This is just to deceive the visitors that he is on ground not knowing that those shouting are rented crowd mounted inside the church just to shout “Owelleeee”. Instead of our governor to berate his SSG who hails from Uguta, and his protocol officers, he is busy pointing fingers on Abuja based politicians….

MESSAGE OF POPE FRANCIS FOR THE 48TH WORLD COMMUNICATIONS DAY

Communication at the Service of an Authentic Culture of Encounter Dear Brothers and Sisters, Today we are living in a world which is growing ever “smaller” and where, as a result, it would seem to be easier for all of us to be neighbours.  Developments in travel and communications technology are bringing us closer together and making us more connected, even as globalization makes us increasingly interdependent.  Nonetheless, divisions, which are sometimes quite deep, continue to exist within our human family.  On the global level we see a scandalous gap between the opulence of the wealthy and the utter destitution…
