  The Manager of Skye Bank, Abak Road Branch, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Ubong Ekpe and his brother have been reported drowned. It was gathered that Ubong, who was on a picnic with his wife and children, drowned along with his brother, Francis, at the Ibeno Beach, Iwuokpom community, in the Ibeno Local Government Area of the state. Ubong was said to have entered into the beach to swim. But after some minutes, he did not surface from the water . Sports betting: Man hangs self over N22,000 loss

A man in his early 30s, Mr. Uchenna, hanged himself in his room along Abak road in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state capital, after losing N22,000 to sports betting. Our correspondent gathered that Uchenna was a perpetual sports gambler with Naija Bet and that he took the said sum he lost from his boss in the hope that he would replace it when he wins. Kidnappers kill businessman after collecting N15m

A businessman identified as Mr. Chijioke Anyanwuor resident in Ikot Abasi local government area of Akwa Ibom state has been reported killed by suspected kidnappers. Saturday Vanguard learnt that Anyanwu a native of Agulu in Anambra state was earlier abducted on February, 25, 2016 in front of his IkotAbasi residence in the morning after returning from a Church programme. Supreme Court Upholds Abia, Akwa-Ibom Elections

The Supreme Court had Wednesday night, upheld the elections of AkwaIbom State Governor Udom Emmanuel and Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu. The seven-man bench presided over by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, allowed the nine appeals filed by parties in the two cases. The Supreme court is to give its reasons for the judgment in the Akwa-Ibom State on February 15 and will also do the same on February 26 in the Abia case. Delivery of judgments began at 9:30pm. New constitution: 20 states reject LG Autonomy —Imo, 15 others support it

No fewer than 20 states of the federation have rejected autonomy for local governments in the fourth amendment of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). In the report of the committee on the review of the 1999 Constitution submitted by Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, yesterday, 20 states voted against local government autonomy while 16 states voted in support. Twenty-four states were needed for local governments to be free from control of state governments. – As Police arrest girl for kidnapping 2 pupils in Aba Security operatives in Akwa Ibom State have recovered about 10 children earlier stolen from their parents and sold either for rituals or to childless couples. Two of the children were rescued just a few days ago in Aba, Abia State. More than 20 suspects, one a traditional ruler from Anambra State, have so far been arrested.
