Before my Obituary: Now I Believe

“It is appointed unto man to die and after death judgment”. Let us therefore remember that “the disobedience of Adam and Eve at the garden of Eden led to their banishment and death which has affected all their descendants forever”. Applying the historical and genetic principle to all that exists, we shall feel free to examine any mortal object or phenomenon at all stages of its rise, growth, heyday, maturity, decline and finally demise. This is an exercise in futility as this is the way of all flesh and everyman all through the ages. There is no known and identifiable…

Death as the Road To Life

Christ has one personal identity to save and to reveal, and one mission to fulfill. Now to reveal His identity and to fulfill His mission, to save the truth of His life, He is disposed to all, even to loose His physical life. The “unconditional” and absolute decision to be Himself and fulfill His Mission at “any” cost is the supreme act of faithfulness (obedience) to God.   An Identity To Reveal And A Mission To Fulfill The loss of one’s life (death) is the “sign”, the verification and  absolute “test” of fidelity to one’s identity and mission received from…

House of horror: Silence grips home of Ngor Okpala poison victims

The house of the victims of the food poison in Egbelu, Nguru Umuowa community in Ngor Okpala was almost scary; the silence around the house was frightening as even fowls in the compound felt the impact of the cold hands of death.  Our reporter,  who visited the deserted house said that it took the courage of a journalist to come close to the house where the meal that wiped out the family of eight stood above. Few villagers who walked across the compound took a conscious glance at the home of the Nwosus as if to say, “Woe betides this…

THE GRATUITOUS LOVE OF GOD OVERCOMES SIN

One of the fundamental themes of St. Luke’s gospel is the self manifestation of Jesus as One who saves sinners.  In this sense He already proclaims Himself God because in the consciousness of the Jews only God can forgive sins.   SIN IS THE DEATH OF MAN Sin is the rejection of communion with God and the breaking up of people convoked by God.  Offence to God is therefore a true and radical alienation of man from God.  Sin is the death of man.  Man is close to himself to the extent he is close to others.  He truly arrives…

Ojukwu and the discourse of disunity

He came from a wealthy stock. He was educated in the best schools. He was a soldier. He was a radical. He was an adept. Some will describe him as unpatriotic, while others see him as a nationalist. Some see him as a villain and others see him as a hero who fought for justice. In life and in death, Ojukwu appeared to have embodied the paradoxes of life and its extremes. Notwithstanding his rare characteristics represented in a somewhat mystic personality, the name Ojukwu will for a long time remain synonymous with the defunct Biafra. As the ex-warlord of…

Come, Let Us Imitate The Faith Of Mary – (2)

See the previous article on this topic Then the massacre of the Holy Innocents. Does that incident hit us? Think of it! : The first effect of the Saviour’s birth was that almost every family in the area with a male child was plunged into mourning. Every babe under two years was murdered, butchered. And as a mother, Mary knew the impact on the mothers whose children were massacred. What excruciating agony and desolate darkness her faith must have gone through! What a superhuman effort it must have taken for her to remain loyal, to continue to believe, respect and…

VIRUSES ASSOCIATED WITH HUMAN CANCER

On the other hand, a proto-oncogene is a dominant host gene that is homologous to an oncogene found in a virus but which can induce transformation only after being altered (such as mutation or a change of context). Often, proto-oncogenes encode proteins that function to stimulate cell division, inhibit cell differentiation, and halt cell death. All of these processes are important for normal human development and for the maintenance of tissues and organs. Oncogenes, however, typically exhibit increased production of these proteins, thus leading to increased cell division, decreased cell differentiation, and inhibition of cell death; taken together, these phenotypes…
