There was a pandemonium at the Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki, FETHA, at the early hours of Monday as doctors and nurses fled the hospital over the outbreak of lassa fever in the state. It was gathered that this followed the death of two doctors and a nurse on Sunday. 3,000 Ebonyi women farmers ask herdsmen to leave their community

About 3,000 Ishiagu women in Ebonyi state yesterday, staged a peaceful protest to the Palace of the traditional ruler of the community, HRH Ezego Moses Ngele, against the destruction of farm crops by herdsmen. The women, comprising mostly peasant elderly farmers, marched peacefully to the palace of the monarch, where they demanded urgent action to end the alleged indiscriminate destruction of cash crops and other farm produce by herdsmen grazing their cattle in the area. Five people, whose job is to claim spurious miracles for some churches during crusades and other programmes, are now in police custody in Enugu State. The suspects, during interrogation, told the police that the aim was to draw more people to the unnamed churches and ministries. The suspects were arrested on Friday at Holy Ghost park axis and Saturday at the popular P&T axis of the state by policemen attached to the Central Police Station, Enugu State. Man, 32, commits suicide over N1,000 theft

A 32-year-old man, Mr. Simon Mbam, of Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State has committed suicide after he was tortured by some villagers for allegedly stealing N1,000 from a shop in the market. The victim, who jumped into a pond in the area last weekend, found himself in the mess when he left his house in the evening of the fateful day to buy drinks with his friends. Ebonyi disburses N200m to mission hospitals, others

Governor Martin Elechi of Ebonyi State has disbursed N200 million grant to six rural hospitals in the state. The 16th tranche brought the total disbursement to rural hospitals since 2008 to N1.9 billion.  It is aimed at providing infrastructure to the hospitals, modern diagnostic equipment, training for health workers and mid-level manpower. The grant is also aimed at promoting maternal and child health, increasing immunization coverage, practicing free maternal healthcare and to enable the hospitals recruit skilled expert human resource such as doctors, nurses and other paramedics. School prefect stabbed to death for enforcing discipline

Tragedy stuck at 13 Amphibious Brigade, Eburutu Baracks, Ikot Ansa in Calabar Municipality of Cross River State recently when the Labour Prefect of Army Day Secondary School, Boniface Odinakachukwu, 19, was stabbed to death for confiscating fellow student’s sandals.
