Yes, the church has a role in politics. In fact, the Catholic Church has played key role in the politics of Nigeria and Imo State. I’ll make Owerri look like Dubai – Okorocha

“See Paris and die”, is a very old saying, especially by the French, who believe, though arrogantly, that the beauty and charm of their capital city-Paris is so spectacular that if one dies after seeing Paris, one will have no regret, since he would have seen the best sights available in the world. This is the kind of dream, Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has for Owerri, capital of Imo State. The governor strongly believes and he says so often, that by the time he leaves office, Owerri will look like Dubai, a spectacular city of glitz and glamour;…

Massive exploitation of students at IMSU

It is very disheartening to observe that the good intention of Governor Rochas Okorocha in extending the Free Education Programme of his administration to Imo State University Students has been converted as a money making business by the lecturers of IMSU. Some of these lecturers mostly in the School of Business Studies are now channelling what would have been paid as tuition fees to themselves by forcing their students to buy their own published so called textbooks at very highly inflated prices. These so called textbooks, which can best be described as pamphlets are published semester by semester on a…

Ochiedike And IMSU: The Unfolding Humanitarian Crisis For Kidney Patients

The Emergence and Proscription of the Indigenous People of Biafra

There are primarily two facilities that offer diagnosis and treatment for Kidney related problems owned by the Imo state government. One is the Imo state teaching hospital at Orlu and the other, the Ochie Dike Centre at Owerri. I am not aware of any such similar facility in Okigwe but there should be  one sooner than later  given the extreme fatigue faced by Kidney patients in long distant exertions or mere walking: The state has to build expansive institutions of compassion in the relentless match of progress in the spirit of parity. The Ochie Dike dialysis centre established by the…

THE AFRICAN ORIGIN OF GREEK PHILOSOPHY: An Exercise in Afrocentrism

The very title of this book is incongruous with the knowledge planted in my head by my culture and education. I was taught throughout my schooling that Greece was the birthplace of western civilization and that the stellar Greek thinkers – Socrates, Plato and Aristotle – were the founding fathers of philosophy. As I grew up and questioned many other ingrained cultural assumptions, it never occurred to me to probe this foundational one – the notion was too firmly rooted. After reading this book, I share some of author Father Onyewuenyi’s righteous indignation that “…Western powers have deprived the African…
