Do We Really Need a Ministry of Happiness to make us Happy?

Ministry of Happiness

Jokes apart, the new Ministry of Happiness should more aptly have been named Ministry of Laughter because the first thing people do when they hear about the ministry is to laugh.  And laughter IS therapeutic.  If in doubt, ask those in some Japanese Cities where people pay money to get some laughter. Japanese are said to work like donkeys and have no time to laugh. But in Imo, our case is different; the problem is not work, but hardship! The majority of our people are sad and angry, due to rising poverty, and Governor Okorocha knows that.  So any…

About job cuts and employment scams

The Emergence and Proscription of the Indigenous People of Biafra

Our anger matches our Judgment. There is no doubt that there is a deepening despair in the land over the seemly lull in governance, and execution of government  projects  leading to liquidity squeeze in the backdrop of the electoral promises of Job! Job!! Job!! Factory!!Factory!!!Employment! Employment!! Employment!!! These familiar sound bites now sound increasingly like a cracked record and very annoying to some people especially those persons in need of jobs. There are no indicators months after reelection of the governor that the government would lift employment embargo but relatives and in-laws of government officials are smiling behind new desks….

Companies operating in the Onitsha Road Industrial Layout Owerri, have sent an SOS to the Owelle Rochas Okorocha-led government to take urgent steps to rehabilitate the road leading into Industrial Estate, now that the dry season has started. This passionate appeal was made recently by chief executives of the firms at an indoor meeting with youths of Irete, the host community of the industrial layout. Hardship in the Land – Help!

Times are hard, and things are getting worse by the day. It is not an exaggeration to said that many Nigerians, especially the older folks, feel they are worse off today than they were a decade or two ago. This is sad, considering that this nation is flowing with resources both natural and human. There should have been improvements in the quality of life of the majority of Nigerians. The boom years of oil failed to rob off on the lives of Nigerians because of an embedded culture of corruption in Nigeria. When you look around, you cannot help…

60% of drivers cannot drive – Mr Emeka Osuorji

It was once reported overseas that 30 per cent of people driving vehicles in Lagos were visually impaired and have no business behind the wheels. General Manager, Imo State Traffic Management Authority (IMSTMA), Mr. Emeka Osuorji, re-echoed that recently when he expressed concern that 60 per cent of those driving in Imo state could move a car but didn’t know how to drive. IMSTMA boss and his men are trying to clean up the roads much like the police, road safety, civil defence and orientation, all uniformed organizations trying to control traffic on perpetually crowded and crazy roads. Whether this…

Engr. Obinna Nshirim: Spread the Money…

For a man who’s been around politics for most of his life, Engr Obinna Nshirim should know when a politician is playing politics or playing to the gallery. Additionally, for a man whose dream of obtaining good education was nearly aborted by lack of a mere two naira, in 1970, Engr. Nshirim also knows how to praise a Governor who removes school fees and tries to clean up the education system, especially primary and secondary. Even when it seems Engr. Nshirim is contradicting himself, one thing is certain; he knows the terrain well, having been around political circles for long. …

The suspect had, however, said he was not alone in the act, citing one Inspector with the training department at the national headquarters and another top official in the anti-vandals department at the Lagos command as his collaborators. Parading the suspect, who was fully kitted in Civil Defence uniform on the rank of Chief Superintendent of Corps (CSC) in Abuja, the Corps Public Relations Officer (CPRO) and…

Dr Sam Madugba – “I won’t compromise my integrity”

There will be no breeding place for mosquitoes in Owerri, if Dr Samuel Iheanacho Madugba has his way. He will rid the town of litter, drain the gutters and ensure adequate refuse collection. Dr Sam will create temporary dumps on Douglas road and Ekeonunwa, even if it means knocking down a few buildings. Monthly clean ups will be compulsory, continuous and regulated. People won’t wait for a week, month or even a year to have the garbage removed from streets. But that’s not all. The goodly doctor will take the cleanup campaign to schools also. He will ensure children are…
