The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Matthew Kukah, speaks to TOBI AWORINDE on the socio-economic situation in the North, President Muhammadu Buhari’s performance and the forthcoming 2019 elections. You were one of those who vehemently opposed Muhammadu Buhari’s presidency from the outset. How would you describe the quality of leadership in Nigeria in the immediate past era? Vehemently opposed to Buhari? Where did you get this from? I think you were sold this dummy in the heydays of ecstasy, frenzy and euphoria of the Buhariphilia, who jumped out of every corner of Nigeria believing that their redemption was…

THE IGBO QUIT NOTICE: MATTERS ARISING (2)

Nigeria on the edge of a precipice

Read the previous – Part 1 IGBO QUIT NOTICE The Igbo quit notice is like a pilot scheme subtly let out to test the mood and evaluate the implication before the implementation of the actual plan. It is worthy of note that the Arewa youth’s action has the support not only  of the Northern Elders Forum(NEF), but of prominent northern leaders like Professor Ango Abdullahi and Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. For some of us, the stage had been set quite long ago. Is it not absolutely inconceivable in a democracy in the twenty-first century that President Muhammadu Buhari would take…

Re: The First Lady’s Attestation – A Divine revelation

Most well-meaning Nigerians, who actually understood that ‘behind every successful man, there is a good woman’ have remained dumb-founded over that swift reaction of President Muhammadu Buhari over his wife (Aisha’s recent interview with the BBC). He was quoted as saying that the place of Nigeria’s First Lady is in the kitchen. It should be noted that the office of the First Lady, which his wife presently occupies, is not one that can be trivialised. Have we forgotten that she represents the entire womenfolk in Nigeria which makes her their mouthpiece? If we allow her to be so relegated, where…
