Looters list, a welcome idea but…

The police have recovered the mace that was stolen from the Senate chambers in Abuja on Wednesday by some thugs.

Any plan to name and shame all those who have brought Nigerians to their current level of poverty is a welcome idea. But a better plan is one which not only names the thieves but reclaims the loot and punishes the looters, to serve as a deterrent to others. What is needed is a comprehensive list of looters, without respect for party affiliation,…

Too much suffering, killings in Nigeria – Cathedral Administrator

The Administrator of Maria Assumpta Cathedral Owerri, Rev. Fr. Gerard Onyekwere has blasted Nigerian leaders saying they behave like “Nero who fiddled while Rome burned.” Preaching at the Cathedral on Sunday, Fr. Onyekwere observed that instead of confronting the myriads of problems facing the country, our leaders behave like the proverbial ostrich which buries its head in the sand, ignoring imminent dangers. “All that matters to them is 2019; how to return to power either directly or through proxy,” he said. “Nigeria is in turmoil, killings no longer mean anything. There is mourning and weeping everywhere, turning the country…

A former Vice-President of World Bank (Africa Division) and former Minister of Education, Mrs. Oby Ezekwesili, has blamed the prevailing poverty level in the country on poor leadership and corruption in the public sector.   In a keynote address on the theme: “Literature and the creative economy”, she delivered at the opening of Port Harcourt Book Festival in Port Harcourt Wednesday, Ezekwesili said it was sad that Nigeria, which should have blazed the trail of development in Africa and the entire Third World, was still struggling to survive after 53 years of independence.   She described Nigeria as the best…
