UPP blasts Okigwe traditional rulers for endorsing Buhari

… Condemns attack on Ohanaeze Ndigbo leader The United Progressive Party (UPP) has condemned in very strong terms, the recent statement endorsing President Muhammadu Buhari for second term, by traditional rulers of Okigwe Zone. The party reminded such natural rulers and custodians of the people’s culture, norms and tradition, that they are expected to be neutral in politics. UPP’s great concern and embarrassment over the purported endorsement of Muhammadu Buhari for a second term by Okigwe Traditional rulers were contained in a release signed by the Deputy National Chairman of the party, Chief Chris Ejike Uche (Dimkpasaa). “We are pained…

Imo youths have capacity for leadership - Amb Tony Kelvin

Members of the youth wing of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Imo State Chapter have been told that the power to provide and manage effective and result oriented leadership that will stem the tide of the country from drift lies with them if they direct their energies and sound intellectual capabilities properly and avoid being used by the old breed to destroy themselves and scuttle their ambition to serve the nation. They were further reminded that without discipline and focus, the youths will continue to float and remain willing tools in the hands of those who will buy off their resourcefulness for mere…

Kanu’s bail conditions, celebration of Judicial rascality – Ohanaeze

OHANAEZE Ndigbo has described the bail conditions handed down to leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, by Justice Binta Nyako of the Abuja High Court, as celebrated rasca1ity. President General of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Chief Nnia Nwodo, who declared this on Tuesday after the National Executive Council meeting of the group said though they are happy Kanu has been released, his bail conditions are unprecedented in the judicial history of the country in their rigidity, unconstitutionality arid stringency. The Sun quotes Nwodo as saying that the group would go to the court to contest them…

The dream and race for President of Nigeria from Igbo extraction

The demise of the first Republic, where an Igbo man Rt. Hon. Nnamdi Azikiwe (Owelle of Onitsha) ended up with the termination of the Republic by Military Coup, saw the end of Igbo man in epic position in Nigeria’s politics. Subsequent attempts made by some individuals at other point in time, in 1998 by Dr. Alex Ekwueme, number two man, in Shagari’s government to clinch the ticket and thus become the President failed. That unsuccessful attempt was not because the man lacked credible portfolios but because the military in one hand did not trust an Igbo man as to hand…

…Inaugurates Ehime-Mbano Chapter The Imo State President of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Dr. Ezechinyere Chukwu has implored the Federal Government to quickly ensure that machinery is put in motion towards creation of an additional State out of the South Eastern Geo-Political zone so as to assuage nerves and agitation against marginalization. Dr. Chukwu opined that creating an additional State from South East as recommended in the 2014 National Conference chaired by Hon. Justice Kutigi will bring the zone at parity with other five Geo-political zones that constitute Nigeria. He regrets that the non-creation of another State from South East is inequitable, unfair…

Soyinka blasts Buhari over Herdsmen’s havoc

 • Senate to probe killings   •More reactions, condemnations trail attacks  NOBEL Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has criticised President Muhammadu Buhari over his reaction to the Fulani herdsmen attacks and killings across the country. He said it was short of expectation. The latest in the orgy of violence, bloodbath and killings by suspected Fulani herdsmen occurred on Monday at Nimbo community in Enugu. Buhari who had been serially slammed for refusing to move against the marauding herdsmen, finally broke his silence on Wednesday when he said the circle of violence would be a thing of the past within the next 18…

Igbo communities worry about activities of herdsmen

It has become a common sight in many rural communities in Igbo land to find small thatched houses built by herdsmen in the middle of farmlands. Initially, the villagers did not attach any meaning to these houses, but when they became clusters that took on the look of villages in the middle of their farms, there was a sense of heightened anxiety among the inhabitants. Previously, herdsmen only took their cattle from such places as Amansea in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State and Ugwuoba in Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State where they resort…

Herdsmen with AK-47

The recent wanton killing of over 300 harmless Agatu indigenes of Benue State by suspected Hausa-Fulani cattle rearers, once again brings to the fore their increasing menace and nervelessness of the Federal Government to deal with the harassment of innocent Nigerians by these herdsmen. Two weeks earlier, villagers in Tom Anyiin and Tom-Attan communities, Mbaya Tombu in Burukutu LGA, also of Benue State were rattled from sleep by reverberating sound of sporadic gunshots from some Fulani cattle rearers, a shooting spree that claimed many lives. It beats our imagination to understand why such cold blooded massacre should occur in those…

Open letter to Nnamdi Kanu

By Adiele Ephraim Sometime in May 2014, I was at Lekki Beach, a place we like to call CLASS OF WIZARDS or CLASS for short. It’s a place where young men and sometimes women come to chill out and share ideas on every topic there is to discuss. On this day, one class member, Celestine seemed hyper happy. He kept smiling for no apparent reason. This prompted the rest of the class to ask what the happiness was about. Soon enough he began telling us about Radio Biafra, gave us the dial and started telling us about a demonstration scheduled…

The President General of the organization, Chief Gary Nnachi Enwo-Igariwey,  made the defence in Abuja after a meeting with leaders of Igbo organization in the 19 northern states and Abuja. He was reacting to the allegations by an Australian hostage and crisis negotiator, Stephen Davis, that Lieutenant General Azubuike Ihejirika was among sponsors of Boko Haram.   The Ohanaeze president said the group saw the reasons given as unrealistic. “Why would Ihejirika sponsor people, who said they want to Islamize the…

As if on a ding dong tit for tat approach, the Apex pan-northern organization, Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, has warned Ndigbo against maltreating the Hausa living in the region under the pretext of fighting Boko Haram. Making reference to the alleged registration of Northerners living in the South-East, ACF said maltreating the Hausa could spell doom for Igbo investments, which it said amounted to over N45 trillion in just three northern states. ACF expressed the fear that if the North should embark on a similar action by identifying the Igbo in the northern region, it could cause crisis that may…

National Dialogue: Why the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Should Not Represent the Igbo Nation

Recently, the GEJ administration came up with the idea of a national dialogue which in my view is a distraction from the present Civil war he is prosecuting against the Boko Haram rebel group and charges of Corruption against his administration in the backdrop of the cohesive belligerence of the APC. Not many Nigerians are aware of the fact that Nigeria, in the view of the United Nations, the international court of Criminal Justice, The World Bank and the international community is a Nation at War just because, the war has religious connotations. Perhaps this is one of the reasons…
