Mothers, Husbands and Children

Mothers in the house are the soul mate to their husbands, they are meant to be together more than bloodily related individuals. Once legally married, the bible says they become one instead of two. They are expected to be like Mary and Joseph the holy family, with more love and one understanding. Husbands are very important in the house and they are the prestige and pride of their wives. As mothers have Virgin Mary as their role model, they should always emulate her and her virtues. Mary was an embodiment of God’s Love. She was very obedient and accepted…

FATIMA: Francisco, Jacinta canonized

Standing before the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary, Pope Francis canonized two shepherd children who saw Mary at Fatima, but more importantly, he said, they heeded the call to pray for sinners and trust in the Lord. “We declare and define Blessed Francisco Marto and Blessed Jacinta Marto as saints,” the pope said May 13 as hundreds of thousands of pilgrims broke out in applause before he finished speaking. The relics of the young shepherd children, encased in two thin golden crosses, were placed in front of the famed statue of Our Lady of Fatima, the “lady dressed…

What Is Immaculate Conception?

PREAMBLE The dogma of Immaculate Conception was officially defined by Pope Pius ix in 1854. Dogmas are formally defined only when there is a controversy that needs to be cleared upon or when the magisterium (the church in its office as teacher; Matt.28:18-20; 1Tim.3:15,4:11) thinks the faithful can be helped by particular emphasis being drawn to some already existing belief. The doctrine of Immaculate Conception stems from this singular purpose i.e. the second reason. In the history of the Marian dogma, the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception has witnessed the greatest opposition within the Catholic Church and outside. Before we…

Priest warns women on maltreatment of maids – Cautions “Ajibo mothers”

A Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Cletus Eboh has tongue-lashed mothers who maltreat their house-helps. Preaching during the Mother’s Day celebration at Maria Assumpta Cathedral, Owerri, April 19, Fr. Eboh observed that while many women take good care of their children, they treat their house-helps as if they are slaves. The priest said it is very easy to identify a maid in a family because of the way they look- underfed, poorly clothed and psychologically distorted. “You are not a good Catholic mother if you treat your maids like slaves”, Fr. Eboh warned. Turning to those he called “Ajibo mothers”,…

THE ROSARY PRAYER (3)

According to Gen 5:24; “Enoch walked with God; then he was no more, because God took him away”. Sir. 44:16 has it thus; “Enoch pleased the Lord and was taken into heaven. He became an inspiration for repentance for all time to come”. While for letter to the Hebrews (11:5-6) “By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death; he could not be found, because God had taken him away. For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God.” Then 2 Kings 2:11-12 records “As they were walking along and…

HYPOCRISY: ITS EFFECT ON THE CHURCH AND THE SOCIETY (2)

The Virgin Mother of God, Virgo Singularis, the Mother of the Church, who shared in each detail in the sorrows and agony of her Son, Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, who is invoked in the Church under the titles of Advocate, Auxiliatrix, Perpetual Help, Mediatrix of all Graces, will eventually crush the head of the Serpent. “In the end”, She promises, “My Immaculate Heart will triumph.” Certainly so for the almighty God decreed: “I will put enmities between thee and the woman, and thy seed and her seed: she shall crush thy head, and thou shalt lie in wait…

Our Blessed Mother Mary and Our Christian Witnessing

Introduction The person and role of Mary in the church is a very significant feature of Catholic life. The tradition of asking for her intercession and honouring her in countless ways are part of our tradition that goes back to the first centuries of the Church. We have to acknowledge that in the recent times the place of Mary in theology and in the Church and devotion to her has become somewhat ambiguous. Older people nostalgically remember colourful processions, May crowing of statues of the Madonna, novenas and sodalities in her honour and the daily recitation of the family rosary…

Holy Trinity Church World Bank celebrates Mother’s Day

The pride of women is what we celebrate today and as we celebrate the mothers, we remember our Mother Mary.   This was postulated by the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Nicholas Ijemaru of Holy Trinity Parish, World Bank during the Mother’s Day celebration, April 14.   In his homily, the priest reminded mothers that through Mother Mary we succeed.  This is because where Mother (Mary) is, there her Son, (Jesus) would always be.  He further stated that the first Eve created on earth brought shame and disgrace to mankind but the second Eve, Virgin Mary is our pride.   He…
