Ihitte Uboma: GLO canvasses support for CGC
The Community Government Council (CGC) of Nkwumeato Autonomous Community Ihitte-Uboma held an interactive session with the villagers on May 8, 2013 at Ezumezu Square Eke Elugwu.
Hon. Friday Obasi, the Government Liaison Officer (GLO), informed the audience that the role of the community is to provide land for projects and also ensure that all projects are executed and built according to specifications.
He used the opportunity to introduce the members of the CGC who include: Mrs. Ego Adiele, Woman Leader, Chief Patrick Ucheogo, Community Liaison Officer, Okechuku Okoro, Secretary and Onwuegebuchulam Okey, the Youth Leader.
According to him, the overriding interest of the State Government in establishing the CGC is to ensure rapid development of the rural communities. Hon Obasi posited that it is imperative that the people will be carried along in the execution of projects and their interests paramount.
He announced the functions of the members of the CGC as follows: the Woman Leader is in charge of health and information, the Secretary has the responsibility of being the Head of Department and Supervises commerce, electricity and empowerment, while the function of the Youth Leader is to supervise sporting activities and play complimentary role in security activities.
The Community Liaison Officer (GLO) has the principal responsibility of handling administrative matters in tandem with the administrative secretary to ensure prudent management of resources and is responsible for planning, research, statistics and finance.
According to him, the traditional ruler of the community is the Chairman of the CGC, who has additional role of supervising culture, education and information units. He urged the members of the CGC to ensure that there is a veritable synergy of the various organs of the CGC.
The GLO informed the villagers that a boundary demarcation committee has been constituted to ensure harmony among neighboring communities. He informed the audience that the State Government has dissolved the town unions.
Chief Obasi urged the community to facilitate construction of a permanent site for the CGC secretariat. He also implored the community to provide land for poultry and farming purposes which the CGC intends to embark upon.
