The heavy rains of Sunday, May 26, 2013 and the deplorable roads to the seminary were no deterrent enough to hold or dampen the spirit of the members of St. Thomas More Special Jurisdiction, New Owerri with their priest-in-charge, Rev. Fr. Dan Anyanwu to show their full support and encouragement to the formators and seminarians of Assumpta Spiritual Year Seminary, Ogbaku.
The executives and some representatives of the Church gathered in their numbers to visit one of the formation grounds of the priests of the Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri. They were warmly received by the Rector and seminarians. Introducing the members of his team and the reason for their visit, Rev. Fr. Dan Anyanwu told the Rector of the desire of the young church to visit the seminary annually and show their support like other parishes in the Archdiocese. He recalled they also visited two years ago and regretted their inability to come last year for some challenges in the church; hence they doubled all their contributions for this visit to make up for the year they missed. They later presented various food items and cash donations to the seminary. In his response the Rector, Very Rev. Msgr. Kevin Akagha, who also doubles as the Vocation Director of the Archdiocese appreciated the visitors and praised them for coming irrespective of the heavy rain. He also used the opportunity to educate the visitors on the various stages of becoming a Catholic priest and how groups and individuals could be benefactors to the seminary. He assured them of the prayers of the seminarians and asked them to also pray for the seminary.
