Egbu remembers Parishioner beheaded in her farm … Appeals to IG to arrest killers

It is now one year since Mrs. Evelyn Uzodinma was murdered in her farm at Egbu on June1, 2012 and later buried without her head in her husband’s compound.

Despite the fact that both the motor cyclist (okada man) that carried the murderers and the person that made the call, informing the murderers about the woman’s presence in the farm are all in the police net, the police still claim that they have not gotten any clue on the murderers and that the two in their custody have not provided any clue to the whereabouts of the murderers nor are there enough evidence to prosecute them.

This was made known by the parish priest of Sacred Heart Catholic Church Egbu, Rev. Fr. Francis Mary Onyekwere in a homily he delivered during the memorial Mass of late Mrs. Evelyn Uzodinma on Sunday, June 9, 2013 at Sacred Heart Parish, Egbu.

The clergyman who expressed dismay that nothing positive has been done by the police to unravel the mystery surrounding the beheading said that police cannot validly claim that they do not yet know who the murderers are, as they already have a good link in the person of the okada man and the informant.

Speaking on the security situation and the attitude of the Nigerian Police, Fr. Francis Onyekwere said the police have failed Nigerians in carrying their constitutional duties of providing adequate security to citizens of the nation.  Going further on the poor security situation in Nigeria, the priest said the common man has no protection in the country as government has not done enough to protect him and that all its promises of providing security are hoarse.

Bemoaning the poor attitude of leaders and highly placed people on the suffering of the Nigerian common man, Fr. Francis Onyekwere queried: “Have our leaders and security agencies not heard about the woman’s (Evelyn) death”?  He pointed out that Nigeria is now experiencing a generation that has no human sympathy on the plight of others and that we are no longer touched by the misery of another.

The Parish Priest however, praised the husband of the deceased, Mr. Nath Uzodinma for his tireless efforts to ensure that his late wife’s gruesome death is demystified.  Consoling him and his family, Fr. Francis admonished them to place all their trust in God.

In his speech, just before the end of the Mass, Mr. Nath Uzodinma thanked the parishioners for the love and care they have shown him since the death of his wife.  He said that he has done everything within his power to unravel the mystery surrounding his wife’s death by granting interview to the local, national and international media yet nothing positive has turned up.

Mr. Uzodinma reiterated his appeal on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Mohammed Dahiru Abubakar to wade into the case, expressing discomfort with the manner the state police command has been handling the case.

It would be recalled that late Mrs. Evelyn Onyetugo Uzodinma, a petty trader was gruesomely murdered in a farm near her home and following investigations by operatives of Imo State Police Command, two suspects, an undergraduate and a commercial motorcycle operator were arrested.

When Crime Guard contacted the Police Public Relations Office, PPRO, Mrs. Joy Elemoko, for comments in April this year, she said the story was strange to her adding that the Commissioner of Police and herself were new on posting.

However our reporter gathered that nothing substantial has happened since their attention was drawn to the gruesome killing.
