There was pandemonium, Tuesday at Uda Local Government Area of Delta State as youths suspected to be cultists, invaded Ovwian Secondary School, flogged teachers, shot into the air, sending both principal and teachers running for their dear lives.
According to our source (The Sun), the miscreants numbering about 10, dressed in black outfit with their faces fully covered emerged from the bush, shot sporadically into the air, flogged the teachers with horse whips and subjected them to series of torture.
The alleged cultists whose ages ranged from 18 to 25 also carted away valuables such as mobile phones, unspecified amount of money and jewellery belonging to the female teachers.
The hoodlums ordered the male teachers to do frog-jump while being flogged with horse whips.
There was confusion in the town at the sound of the gun shots causing residents to flee in different directions, while women abandoned their children running to save their own lives.
Reports gathered showed that this was the third time hoodlums were invading the school, hence the people’s appeal to the police to provide security for them.
A staff of the school, who spoke to newsmen on condition of anonymity, said that one of the teachers nearly died the last time the school was invaded. A female teacher who threatened to resign her appointment lamented: “We live in fear because our lives are no longer safe. Imagine a situation where cultists and armed robbers come always to harass and cart away our belongings”.
Two girls that sell sachet water and biscuits were allegedly raped by some of the cultists. But when contacted, Mrs. Duku, the principal of the school declined comments.
