Anglican Donates Brand New Bus to Atta CWO
The combined spirit of ecumenism and philanthropy was showcased last Sunday, July 28, 2013, at St. Michael’s Catholic Parish Atta Ikeduru when Dr. Desmond Ukanacho, a Philanthropist and an Anglican by faith donated a brand new 12- seater Nissan bus to the Catholic Women Organization (CWO) of the parish.
The gesture was the fulfilment of a pledge he made a few months ago, during the Catholic Women Organization (CWO) Mothers Day celebration for 2013.
The Philanthropist, who also hails from Atta explained that he would have delivered the bus earlier but for the fact that he had been away from the country for so long.
He advised fellow Christians to take any pledge they make to God seriously, as he never fails to reward those who are faithful to their promises. He also gave the sum of N200,000 to the CWO to fuel the bus, adding that his aim was to enhance the work of God, not only in Atta but also throughout Imo State and Nigeria.
Speaking also, the wife of the philanthropist, Mrs. Ukanacho, who along with other friends and associates accompanied him, also stressed on the need to sow in God’s vineyard as the reward was always certain to come.
The Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Jonathan Ezenwoke expressed immense gratitude to Dr. Ukanacho for his kind gesture and prayed God to reward him abundantly. He also thanked the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Imo State Council Chief (Sir) Innocent Igwe for the publicity being given to the occasion.
In his remark earlier, Sir Igwe thanked the philanthropist for living up to his word and called on other Christ’s faithful to emulate his worthy example. He took the opportunity to make cash donation to the Catholic Men Organization (CMO) who had honoured him during the 2013 Fathers Day.
Others who spoke at the occasion included: the President of the CWO, Mrs. Bernadine Ejimadu, the CMO Chairman, Mr. Patrick Uboegbulem and Sir Adol Ekwelem. They thanked the philanthropist for his love for God’s work and recalled the support he had been giving to Churches in Atta as well as other works of charity to the less privileged.
It would be recalled that Dr. Ukanacho, a chieftain of the United Peoples Party (UPP) is the Chairman/Chief Executive of Osmond Ukanacho Foundation, a charity organization that has been at the forefront of putting smiles on the faces of the down trodden, particularly those who cannot afford food, clothing and shelter.
The Foundation which has branches in Canada and Britain has donated several wheel-chairs and clutches to the physically challenged at the Imo State University, University of IIorin and Western Nigeria. He has touched the lives of many through his scholarship, free medical programme, electricity and water borehole schemes.
