The wife of the Imo State Governor, Nneoma Nkechi Okorocha and her entourage stormed Ehime-Mbano Local Government Headquarters for the 2013 August meeting on Thursday, August 15, 2013.

A tumultuous crowd of women drawn from the 31 autonomous communities in Ehime-Mbano were mobilized for the unique event.  In an address at the occasion, the First Lady of Imo State, enjoined the women to shun laziness, idleness, rumor mongering, gossip and help their husbands rear up their children in the fear of God.

She further urged them to monitor the companies their children keep.  Nneoma Okorocha informed the audience that the Rescue Mission programmes are geared towards overall development of the innate potentials of the individual.  She stated that the free education programme is to ameliorate poverty and cushion off sufferings by parents who hitherto spent much in educating their children.

According to her, the various projects being executed across the 27 Local Government Areas of Imo State, are for the development of the state and to ensure that difficulty in accessing roads are greatly minimized.

THE LEADER spoke with Lady Maria Amah, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Community Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and she posited that the present government in Imo State is working assiduously to develop the state.  She stated that the creation of the Community Government Council is a veritable effort by the present administration to bring government nearer to the people, which also enhances participatory democracy in the rural areas by the people of the state.

Lady Chioma Ogoke, Sole Administrator of Ehime-Mbano LGA, also spoke to THE LEADER and postulated that it is appropriate that women should be encouraged to be governors and even president of the country.

In his own contribution, Sir Austin Amah (OAU) the General Manager of Imo State Agency for Community and Social Development Projects (ISA-CSDP) observed that the August meeting is very unique because it is a Development Plan geared towards marshaling out strategies for community development and transformation.

Investigation reveals that a concerted empowerment effort was made by the organizers to put smiles on the faces of women. A total of 62 women, two from each autonomous community were given revolving loans at the event.
