Archbishop Obinna visits St. James Ezenomi, Confirms 155

The Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Nwachukwu and the entire parishioners of St. James Catholic Church, Ezenomi, were filled with joy, Sunday, September 13, 2013 as they received the Archbishop, His Grace, Most Rev. Anthony J.V. Obinna on his pastoral visit to the Parish.

In his homily, Archbishop Obinna cautioned Christians on the use of their wealth, advising them to use it to the glory of God and the betterment of mankind.

The prelate who enumerated on the various sins that divert us from the grace of God such as fornication, abortion, robbery etc., called on Christians to always strive to abstain from sin in order to receive God’s blessings.

Archbishop Obinna lamented the chaos being caused by the belief in Osu/Diala caste system in Igbo land and enjoined Christians to rise and fight this cankerworm that is tearing families, churches and societies apart.

To the newly confirmed, the Chief Shepherd charged them to let the light of Christ be seen in their daily lives.  He told them to profess the gospel without fear as the spirit they received is not of timidity.

He charged the sponsors of the confirmed candidates, Mr. Francis Ugochukwu Oparaugo and Mrs. Angelina Njoku to be more up and doing in their service to God as people now look up to them for worthy examples.

In his speech during a reception that followed, the Chairman of the occasion, Prof. Chris Ukachukwu Manus, a lecturer at Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife, a Parishioner, thanked the Archbishop for visiting them despite his tight schedule.

Presenting an address, the Pastoral Council Chairman, Hon. Francis Oparaugo appreciated the Archbishop’s concern over the flock in the Archdiocese especially the Eu-Care project, Odenigbo, Sacred Heart Priests’ Home, his attention towards the plight of Imo citizens especially on the matters that deal with the respect for life.

Enumerating some of the laudable achievements of the Parish Priest, Fr. Emmanuel Nwachukwu, Hon. Oparaugo expressed the parishioners gratefulness to him and urged him to keep up the pace on which he rides.

Speaking, the Ezurume I of Ezenomi, HRH Eze Herbert Ngozi Akalugwu applauded the Archbishop for his giant strides in the Archdiocese and prayed God to give him more strength to continue to work in his vineyard.

The occasion featured welcome songs, cultural dances, presentation of gifts and cash items by the parishioners.
