‘Final Push’: Gov. Obi begins distribution of 500 buses to schools
Anambra State Governor Peter Obi is fast fulfilling his promise to spend N40b in what he termed ‘final push’ towards accelerating the Millennium Development Goals.
Following the recent disbursement of N2b for rehabilitation of Government-owned Primary Schools, N1.5b for rehabilitation of Missionary-owned Primary Schools; N20m each for rehabilitation of all Secondary Schools in the State, N1b for the strengthening of libraries sand laboratories in all the Secondary Schools in the State, he again flagged off the distribution of 500 buses to all the secondary schools in the State with the initial 120 buses.
Speaking at the event at Ekwueme Square, Governor Obi said his government had equally procured 25,000 computers with complete school syllables and books installed in them. He also said all the secondary schools in the state would get money for provision of sick bays and connection to the internet among others. He said his government was moved to do all these because the fruit of the much done in the past had already started manifesting in the good performances of Anambra Schools in different external examinations.
The Governor thanked the Churches for partnering with the State, saying that since government started disbursing money directly to them, they had been able to achieve more than government would have achieved if allowed to spend the money themselves.
Senior Special Assistant to the President on Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), Dr. Precious Gbenol, who performed the flag off, said if other governors would emulate Obi’s commitment and judicious management of resources, the country would soon register its presence in the global map of development. She assured that more funds will be released to the State to complete other ongoing projects and initiate more.
National Chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Umeh, said the state had every reason to thank God as Obi had made him and APGA proud.
