The joy of the Parish Priest, Fr. Patrick Oparamanuike, the priest in residence, Rev. Fr. Dr. George Nwachukwu and the parishioners of SS. Philip and James Catholic Parish Egbu, knew no bounds as the long awaited dedication of their chapel became a reality, Thursday, October 17, 2013.
The first phase of the occasion featured the blessing of the chapel by His Grace, Anthony J.V. Obinna, Catholic Archbishop of Owerri.
The Archbishop while installing the Body of Christ in the tabernacle, prayed to God to always answer all who will call upon Him from the Sanctuary and urged the people to always maintain decorum while in the chapel declaring it as a holy place.
The second phase witnessed a grand reception in honour of the Archbishop and the successful dedication of the chapel.
The Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Patrick Oparamanuike with great joy appreciated Archbishop Obinna for making time out of his tight schedule and implored the grace of God on all that would pray in the chapel.
Speaking, the Parish Council Chairman, Sir E.C. Okere described the Archbishop’s visit as a long awaited one but expressed happiness over its success.
Sir Okere thanked Mr. Paschal Dozie for single-handedly building the chapel and for his numerous contributions to the growth of the parish.
The Chairman commended the peaceful synergy existing between the parishioners and the priests in the parish and called for its continuation.
He however lauded the Archbishop for the caliber of priests he sends to the parish, describing them as always the best, while asking God to give him the strength to continue to shepherd the sheep entrusted into his care.
Responding, Archbishop Obinna appreciated the parishioners for the unexpected warm reception he received while praying that their efforts be rewarded with success and everlasting blessings.
Present at the dedication ceremony were: the CMO President, Chief Charles C. Nwandiko, the CWO Vice-President, Lolo Ann Ekwueme, the Parish Council Chairman, Sir E.C. Okere, the Parish Catechist, Mr. John Anyanwu, the CYON President, Bro. Stanley Okwara and the Mary League Girls President, Sis. Chinwendu Njoku.
