Obi remains best governor of Anambra – Bishops

- He has brought life to mission hospitals, schools

The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Bishop Paulinus Ezeokafor and the Anglican Bishop of Amichi, Bishop Ephraim Ikeakor, have said that Governor Peter Obi remains the best Governor Anambra State has ever had.  The bishps spoke at different for a recently.

While Bishop Ezeokafor made the submission at St. Joseph Hospital Adazi-Nnukwu, while receiving a life ambulance and a cheque of N50m for the continued re-building of the hospital, Bishop Ikeakor spoke during a reception for Governor Obi.

The Catholic bishop said everybody was pleased with the government in Anambra State because of its visible achievements.  “It is no longer ear-making in the state, it is now eye-marking”, he said.

Accordingly, he advised the person that will take over from Obi to be as humble as he is.  He, therefore, warned all those jostling to take over from Obi to strive to do more than he had done at least equal his records.  The bishop said he would personally declare and lead the war against whoever replaces Obi, but fails to govern the state the way Obi is doing now.

“Look at the schools in Anambra State, they are improving.  Anambra State now has the best network of roads; our education facilities are receiving lots of support, among other improvements.  We do not want somebody that will lead us backwards and that is why we are all supporting continuity”, the bishop said.

In his own remarks, Governor Obi said more assistance would be offered to the hospital as government was determined to have it upgraded as a specialist hospital.  He pledged to continue to work for the good of the state till the day he would hand over to his successor.

In a related development, the Anglican Bishop of Amichi, Most Rev. Ephraim Ikeakor has described as blatant liars, those who, inspite of the monumental work of the Governor, still say he is not performing.

According to “Newsreel”, the bishop said Governor Obi had done very well and that only those possessed by the devil will say anything to the contrary.

The prelate observed that despite the fact that Governor Obi is about to leave office, he is still working with the same commitment and dedication with which he started.  “Others would have been more interested in using the last year in office to amass filthy wealth”, he added.

Though the bishop did not call names of the “blatant liars”, reporters said he was referring to some governorship candidates in the November gubernatorial election in Anambra State.

Earlier, the Anglican bishop on the Niger, Rt. Rev. Owen Nwokolo had commended Governor Obi, saying no government has equaled his efforts in partnering and empowering the church to provide efficient health and education services to the people.  He also noted that God was using the Governor as a vessel of honour to touch the lives of the people.

The bishop was speaking while receiving a cheque for N20m as part of the money for the construction of the hostel project of its School of Nursing.

Earlier, the Hospital Administrator, Rev. John Amaizu said God used the Governor to answer the prayer of the hospital and recalled his prompt response in saving the Schools of Nursing and Midwifery in the state and ensuring their accreditation.

Rev. Amaizu disclosed that the Governor had also provided the hospital with N120m to upgrade structures and facilities for second accreditation, adding that the Governor has brought life to mission schools.
