Rev. Fr. Dr. Cyril Akalonu, has charged members of Owerri Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women Organization (OACCWO) to accept their responsibilities and see that they yield fruits in their different homes, churches and as well the society at large. He gave this charge in his opening remarks during their annual seminar held at Villa Maria Guest House Owerri, Saturday 26, October 2013.
Rev. Fr. Akalonu who is the Chaplain of the organization reminded mothers that they have to spread the gospel by what he called “The Witness of Life” like those who were enthroned as Star Mothers, Golden Mothers, Ezinne and Eziihe. He urged them to always emulate the life of our Mother Mary and live by example.
He said as the fig tree, God expects good fruits from the mothers especially their children and advised them to always train their children in the ways of our mother Mary and our lord Jesus Christ.
He told the women to live a virtuous life and avoid worldly things, be courteous and work harder to attain heaven.
The priest made it known to the mothers that the Christian life which they have chosen is like a war front where everybody has to fight independently to make heaven and advised them not to relent but ask God for his grace which they receive through the sacrament of holy Eucharist.
Fr. Akalonu was assisted by Rev. Fr. Jude Nzimoha at the mass celebrated earlier to kick-off the three day ceremony.
In a welcome address, the President of OACCWO, Lady Stella Acholonu expressed her gratitude to all especially to His Grace, Most Rev. Dr Anthony J.V Obinna, the Archbishop of Owerri who though was absent but has been a source of inspiration to them all.
She highlighted the topic of the seminar “LOVE IN ACTION” expressing that it is taking place at the appropriate time when our country is infested with the rising atrocities of the Boko Haram terrorists that pose a great threat to life and security of Nigeria.
She encouraged the Catholic women to instill love in the hearts of their children and husbands. They were advised to avoid terrorism, kidnapping, rape, killing, insurgence, jealousy and envy which are counter productive to national development.
The first paper titled Guilt, Indifference and Animosity was presented by Prof. (Mrs.) Helen.O. Anukam while the 2nd paper: Rising Tensions, of Insurgency and Insecurity was presented by Prof (Mrs.) Anyanwu Felicia from Ahiara Diocese.
