Servants of Charity Congregation lays foundation for mentally disabled Centre in Owerri

The Servants of Charity Congregation has held the Foundation Laying ceremony of a centre for the mentally disabled at Umuguma Owerri West LGA of Imo State.  The African delegation of the congregation under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Uche Desmond Ifesinachi held the ceremony on November 23, 2013.

Present during the occasion were Msgr. Kevin Akagha, who represented the Archbishop of Owerri, Most Rev. A.J.V. Obinna, the former Commissioner for Women Affairs who is presently the Director-General, Imo Foundation, Hon. Barr. Ngozi Njoku, HRH Eze Ugorji George Nnamdi of Umuguma Autonomous Community; Rev. Fr. Kyrian Carlo Frigerio, the Superior of Don Guenella Centre Nnebukwu, Oguta LGA, children of Nnebukwu Centre and other priests of Servants of Charity in Nigeria.

Rev. Msgr. Kevin Akagha during the foundation laying proper expressed gratitude to God for making the event a reality and said, he was happy to be part of the ceremony of laying the foundation of Our Lady of Providence Centre for the Mentally Disabled.

He acknowledge the instruments of God used for the realization of the project, being the Superior African delegation of the congregation, the Hon. Member present, the Royal Father and the entire people of Umuguma community.  Eze Ugorji of Umuguma Community welcomed their guests to the community and pledged to give his support to the congregation in their project on hand.

Speaking also, the Director-General, Imo Foundation, Hon. Barr. Ngozi Njoku on behalf of the Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, expressed joy with everyone that helped in the realization of the project especially in the search for the site which has been on  for four years now.

According to her, the Imo State Government got interested in the project because the governor of the state is a public spirited person.  She charged the public not to obstruct to good things that come their way but accept them wholeheartedly for it comes with blessings.

She appreciated the priests of Servants of Charity Congregation for coming up with  such a good initiative and prayed to God to give everyone the grace to support the congregation.

The Superior-General of Servants of Charity Congregation, African Delegation, Fr. Uche in return expressed gratitude to everyone who had contributed one way or the other to the realization of their dream.  First to the Archbishop of Owerri for his support to the mission of the congregation and to his representative, Msgr. Akagha for being part of the history of the congregation in this part of the globe.  He thanked the people of Umuguma village for their generosity in giving out the lands, also to the Hon. Member for their support to the group.   He thanked God for making the event possible.

Speaking to THE LEADER, Fr. Uche  said the building at hand is an ultra-modern centre for the education and rehabilitation of the mentally disabled.  He called on the general public to be part of this project thereby leaving a legacy of noble act; building such a centre, according to him, it is a preferable act than of flooding Owerri with hotels to do something for the mentally disabled and less privileged.

He also expressed gratitude to Ichie Cosmas Anozie, Nze Athanasius Okpo, the Chairman and members of Umuagu Progressive Union.  Also to Mr. Swinly Onyebosi who designed the architect of the ultra-modern building.
