Teaching hospital deploys doctors to mission hospitals in Ebonyi

The Chief Medical Director of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki (FETHA), Dr. Paul Ezeonu, has said in an effort to reduce maternal morbidity in rural areas of Ebonyi State, the hospital has deployed medical doctors to some mission hospitals in the state.

He said the posting of the doctors to the hospitals had really helped in saving lives in the areas.

Speaking when members of the Correspondent Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) in the state visited him in his office in Abakaliki at the weekend, Dr. Ezeonu said the hospital embarked on mass recruitment of staff to meet the primary and secondary health care needs of the people.

“We employed an outpost programme with some missionary hospitals in the rural areas such as the Mile 4 Hospital, Abakaliki, Mater Misericorddie Hospital, Afikpo, Presbyterian Joint Hospital, Uburu etc., with some consultant doctors to monitor them to meet these objectives and to reduce maternal morbidity in the state”, the FETHA boss said.

“We will provide the necessary training and logistics for these staff to ensure that they meet up with challenges confronting them”.
