….APC women sweep stadium to remove footprints of PDP members after rally

Meanwhile, as early as 7am on Monday angry Imo  APC women numbering over 3,000 and armed with brooms stormed the streets of Owerri, the capital of Imo State in protest against what they described as the provocative rally of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the weekend.

The women, who were chanting war songs also went to the Dan Anyiam Stadium where the PDP rally was held and swept the stadium apparently to sweep away the footprints of the PDP leaders and members who held a unity rally at the stadium to welcome back the party’s former members.

The protesting women marched along the major streets of Owerri including Wetheral, Okigwe and Mbaise roads sweeping as they move along.

Addressing newsmen, Chief Josephine Udorji, who is the leader of the women’s group, said the PDP leaders came to remind Imo people about the scars they left on their bodies when they governed the state for 12 years without any visible achievement. She expressed surprise that President Goodluck Jonathan could attend such a rally just to welcome back to the PDP fold those she alleged despoiled the state.

Similarly, Mrs. Getrude Oduka and Mrs. Tina Adike, who also spoke to newsmen said they allowed the PDP rally to hold because of the respect they had for President Jonathan and Vice-President Namadi Sambo who were in attendance, saying otherwise they would not have allowed the rally to hold.

The women later marched to the Government House to register their solidarity to Governor Rochas Okorocha.

Chief Uche Nwosu, Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development addressed the protesting women and thanked them for their unflinching support. He urged them not to be swayed by the latest political gambit of the PDP in the state.
