Adultery adulterates marriage – Archbishop Obinna warns
Catholic couples have been warned that adulterous relationship defiles marriage and lowers its taste.
Archbishop Obinna
The Most Rev. Anthony Obinna, Catholic Archbishop of Owerri gave the warning at the investiture of 300 Knights and Ladies of St. Mulumba held at Mount Carmel Catholic Church Emekuku, Owerri, February 28.
In his homily at the investiture Mass, Archbishop Obinna said that marriage was a major qualification for knighthood as Catholics who are not married are not qualified for initiation into the Order.
Reflecting on the Readings, the prelate warned that adultery is adulteration, explaining that when one commits adultery, one lowers the esteem between one and one’s husband and vice-versa.
He advised knights and ladies to be steadfast in the faith and in their marital vows and live exemplary marriage, as God has given them the grace of steadfastness.
Making reference to the Gospel (Mark 10:1-12) a man must leave father and mother and be joined to his wife…” Archbishop Obinna said whether the marriage system is matriarchy or patriarchy, the important thing is let it be in Christ.
He commended the knights for choosing Mount Carmel Catholic Church Emekuku for the investiture, adding that it was a thing of joy to assemble at Mt. Carmel Church where the centenary of the establishment of the Catholic Church in Owerri Ecclesiastical Province was celebrated in 2012.
In his remarks later, the Episcopal Vicar for Emekuku Zone and Parish Priest of Mount Carmel Parish Emekuku, Rev. Fr. Dr. Alex Okoro thanked the knights for choosing his zone and parish for the investiture.
He explained that the podium was used because of the renovation going on in the church in readiness for its dedication.
The mass was presided over by the Archbishop flanked by Rev. Fr. Alex Okoro and Rev. Fr. Nicholas Nwachukwu, Principal Cloonan Memorial Secondary School Emekuku.
