Bishop Amatu dedicates St. Theresa Church Umunakanu

A state of the art-ultra Catholic Church building at St. Theresa’s Parish Umunakanu Owerre, Ehime Mbano LGA of Imo State was dedicated by Most Rev. Solomon Amatu, Catholic Bishop of Okigwe, Saturday, March 1, 2014.

The ceremony started with a Pontifical Mass concelebrated by the Local Ordinary of Okigwe diocese with a record breaking number of 67 priests and the religious in attendance.

In his homily, Bishop Amatu eulogized Rev. Fr. Gerald Osuagwu for executing the high profile church building diligently in only four years as the parish priest.  He urged other priests to emulate the good works of Rev. Fr. Gerald Osuagwu who delivered the project without a “building committee”.

The Bishop further paid glowing tributes to High Chief Richard Egbule (MFR) for contributing huge sums of money and resources towards the execution of the church building.

He further appreciated the parishioners and good spirited individuals for their selfless service and sacrifice towards the building of a befitting place of worship.

The prelate observed that the human body is also the body of Christ which should be made holy.  He described the human body as the first temple of God.

Bishop Amatu described the magnificent edifice as a place of worship worthy to be called a true house of God.  He warned against desecrating the consecrated place of worship.

He wondered why the body of Christ is no longer holy.  According to him, anyone who defiles a place of worship stands condemned.

If you despise the house of God or the body of Christ, through kidnapping, ritual, fornication, abortion, prostitution, robbery and murder, you will be destroyed by God, he warned.  The Bishop enjoined the congregation to shun noise-making politics and commercial activities in the church.  He also urged Christians to love one another, learn to praise God and practice charity without conditions attached

In an address at the event, High Chief Richard Egbule (MFR), Chairman of the Church Dedication Committee observed that the task was arduous, enormous and stressful!  He noted that the situation was aggravated by lack of funds.

Dr. Egbule however posited that the resilience of members of the committee and support of the resourceful parish priest were the catalyst that did the magic.
