The Imo State Government says it will not renege in its resolve to ensure prompt payment of compensation to Land Owners whose Land was acquired for development purposes.

The Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Urban Planning, Chief Uche Nwosu stated this in his office while disbursing cheques of over N32 million to Land Owners of Timber and Allied Market Approach Layout of Egbu and Naze, Owerri North Local Government Area.

The Commissioner who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Basil Ogwunga recalled that during the immediate past regime in the State about 30.48 hectres of land was acquired for the building of Timber and Allied Market without any compensation paid.

He noted that in the present dispensation, the Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has decided to compliment the present Timber and Alied Market with residential Layout now called Timber and Allied Market Approach Layout to provide accommodation for those doing business in the market.

Chief Nwosu disclosed that within this his tenure, the Governor had designed the land and payment of compensation to Land Owners to ensure the Land is properly acquired.

He recalled with joy that the Governor had been paying compensations for Land acquired and enjoined the Land Owners to cooperate with the contractors to ensure a hitch free completion of the project.

The Attorneys representing the various Land Owners as well as the beneficiaries thanked the Governor for his gesture and pleaded that work on the project should start immediately.

The highpoint of the occasion was the disbursement of the cheques to the Attorney who received it on behalf of their clients.
