As angry wife sets house ablaze over husband’s failure to take her to America
US-based man, mum escape death in Imo
An irate housewife, Mrs. Angela Ogbonna (Lolo), native of Ndibinuhu-Abueke Ihitte-Uboma LGA of Imo State has set her husband’s residence ablaze for the man’s failure to take her to America.
Trouble started when her American-based husband, Lawrence Ogbonna returned in December 2013. The former American Air Force Officer had scheduled to go back to the United States on Friday, March 8, 2014.
To his shock, his wife Angela insisted on being taken to America with him as he had promised during the last visit. Her husband explained to her that it was not possible yet as she had not concluded preparation of the documents that will facilitate her departure. Hell was let loose when Angela insisted that it was either Lawrence takes her along now or their marriage will terminate.
Narrating the gory story to THE LEADER, Chief Egbughara Innocent (JP), President, Association of Urban Dwellers Development Union, Umuahia, Abia State, cousin to Lawrnce Ogbonna said that this was the reason why Mrs. Angela burnt their eight-room apartment.
Investigations reveal that on the fateful day, the angry woman sent someone to procure a gallon of fuel for
her. Armed with a box of matches, she locked up her husband, who was sleeping. She also locked in her aged mother in-law and then spread the entire household with petrol and ignited her match, threw it at the house and the house started to burn.
Alarm was raised by neighbours as the dangerous conflagration raged on. It took a concerted effort of neighbours to rescue her mother in-law while her husband fought the battle of a life time, before escaping death from the window.
A local vigilante operative alerted the police at the Ihitte-Uboma Division, who arrived the scene as the inferno raged on and arrested the culprit. Further investigations reveal that Lawrence Ogbonna bought his wife Angela, a fore-runner Toyota Jeep for her comfort at home. He also ensures that his wife supervises a six-flat storey building which has reached roofing stage.
THE LEADER reporter, Magnus Ibe saw the smoldering residence as the debris of the completely destroyed household littered the precincts of the compound.
Household properties destroyed include: books, beddings, certificates, project materials, historical artifacts, two GP tanks, food items, computers, domestic animals, radio and television sets, foams, expensive chairs, clothes. Infact, everything that has value was destroyed beyond rescue. The house was completely decimated as its walls also caved in.
THE LEADER went to Ihitte Uboma Police Division, where a police source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the incident but added that the case has been transferred to the Imo State Police Command Headquarters, Owerri.
The women of Abueke community took to the streets protesting this barbaric atrocity by one of them. Meanwhile the aged mother in-law is recuperating at the hospital, while Lawrence Ogbonna ran back to his base in America.
Mrs. Angela Ogbonna (nee Obasi), aged 32 and mother of three, is right now helping the police in unraveling the circumstances surrounding the arson.
