UBA donates modern incubators to Holy Rosary Hospital Emekuku
The United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc., has donated two ultra-modern incubators to the Holy Rosary Hospital Emekuku, Owerri.
Sir Ray Ahumibe (2nd Right) with Mr. Ugochukwu Okoli of UBA with the Director of the hospital, Rev. Fr. Dr. Eunan at the event
The donation was facilitated by the UBA Foundation, a social welfare arm of the bank. An incubator is an enclosed apparatus which provides a controlled environment for the care and protection of premature babies.
Presenting the equipment to the hospital March 31, UBA Regional Bank Head Owerri, Sir Ray Ahumibe said the donation was to complement the hospital’s efforts towards the fight against infant mortality.
Sir Ahumibe commended the good work going on in Emekuku hospital and expressed optimism that the health institution would put the equipment into good use.
Receiving the incubators, the Director of the hospital, Rev. Fr. Dr. Eunan Asomugha thanked UBA in a special way for its interest in the welfare of the vulnerable in society.
Dr. Asomugha, who spoke on behalf of Archbishop Anthony Obinna, Proprietor of the hospital, said such assistance helps the hospital in its effort to “provide quality service at affordable cost”.
The Director said that the equipment came at a time they were very much needed, adding that they would serve not only premature and under-weight babies delivered in Emekuku hospital but also patients from other hospitals that need the apparatus.
Fr. Asomugha expressed optimism that the equipment would reduce the rate of infant mortality and assured the UBA Foundation that the incubators would be put into good use.
The priest regretted that government does not give grant to the hospital despite the fact that many of the patients are indigent and find it difficult to pick their bills after treatment. He therefore appealed to other institutions to emulate the good gesture of UBA
Sir Ray Ahumibe was accompanied by Okechukwu Okoli, Manager Douglas Road Branch Owerri and Ugochukwu Ndukwu, Relationship Manager.
On hand to receive the UBA team and the equipment were Rev. Fr. Eunan Asomugha, Director, Rev. Fr. Egejuru, Chaplain, Maritha Akalonu, HOD Special Care Baby Unit and other members of the department.
Akalonu, who was full of joy said the incubators would complement the ones they have, adding that the need to rush premature babies to FMC Owerri when the other incubators are in use has been drastically reduced.
