Holy Trinity Parish W/Bank celebrates her Mothers’ day in grand style

The dignity of womanhood restored through the Blessed Virgin Mary

Holy Trinity Catholic Parish World Bank Owerri last Sunday, March 30, 2014 joined the rest of Christendom to celebrate this year’s Mother’s Day.

The highlights of the occasion were the Award of “Men of Divine Destiny” selected members of the Catholic Men Organization (CMO) and “Faithful Mothers” to some selected members of the Catholic Women Organization (CWO) and the cutting of the Mother’s Day cake.

The Eucharistic celebration had the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Nicholas Ijemaru as principal celebrant assisted by Rev. Frs. Philip Opara and Francis Onuoha.

Preaching the sermon, Fr. Ijemaru, who announced that day’s theme as: “God that searches the heart”, called on the faithful to seek the face of God by asking for His grace and direction before doing anything.  This, he said, was exactly what the Blessed Virgin Mary did which attracted God’s favour on her.

He said that the dignity of womanhood was restored through Mary.

The Parish Priest urged the faithful to give God the glory no matter how challenging the circumstances that face them.  He cited the bold reply to the Pharisees by the boy born blind when they refused to acknowledge Christ’s power as coming from God, describing it as a good example of standing one’s ground in face of challenges.

He tasked mothers to be mindful of how they train their children to ensure that they are in accordance with the word of God.

The homilist urged mothers to condemn every evil attitude found in their children and not to worry if people reject them on account of their stand in the truth.

The Parish Priest associated the woman to the followimg attributes: W for womb, O for Orderliness, M for Meekness, A for Availability and N for Natural.

In their address at the occasion, the CWO President, Lady Meg  Adamma Ezuruike explained that mother’s day is a day set aside by the church to remember, honour and appreciate mothers for their contributions both at home and in the church.  It is also used by the women to appraise their own performances as good Catholic mothers and equip themselves for future challenges.  She said that the theme for 2014 Mother’s Day “The Role of a Mother in a Catholic Family” was carefully selected to curb the high rate of crime in Nigeria.  She disclosed that the CWO has assisted the society by upholding good morals for the poor and financial support to those starting up businesses.
