Owerri mechanics to relocate to Avu – Gov. Okorocha appeals for cooperation
Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has advised mechanics operating in Owerri and environs to co-operate in the effort to relocate them to Avu Mechanic Cluster with an assurance that government intends to provide modern facilities, including a uniform specification for workshop buildings.
The governor who spoke during an interactive meeting with mechanics at Ahiajoku Convention Centre stressed the need to sanitize the urban profile of the state capital with the relocation of mechanics and other artisans to a more conducive environment.
Calling on the mechanics to embrace the good intentions of government by peacefully moving out of their present locations, including Orji and Nekede mechanic villages, Governor Okorocha assured that those who own workshop allocations at the old mechanic villages shall still retain ownership of their property but that no mechanic workshop shall be allowed at such places again.
In his characteristic manner, the Governor used the option A4 System to solve the lingering leadership tussle within the ranks of mechanics by conducting a keenly contested election on the spot which saw Mr. Kyrian Nnadi emerging as the Chairman of Imo State Chapter of National Automobile Technicians Association (NATA).
Addressing the mechanics, the Commissioner for Industry and Non-formal Sector/Supervising Commissioner for Agriculture, Barr. (Lady) Ugochi Nnanna-Okoro described Governor Okorocha’s intervention as God’s way of bringing all mechanics in the state under one umbrella and charged the Steering Committee to ensure that only genuine mechanics obtain the application forms.
Speaking, the new Chairman of National Automobile Technicians Association, Mr. Kyrian Nnadi pledged to work towards the speedy realization of the Avu Mechanic Cluster and enjoined mechanics to purchase the forms as the first step towards owning their own workshops.
