Catholic women display football artistry at St. Joseph Parish Umualumaku
In commemoration of the Feast of Annunciation, members of Catholic Women Organization (CWO), St. Joseph Parish Umualumaku Ehime-Mbano LGA of Imo State took to the field displaying unusual football artistry.

At the end of the hilarious match played at the National School ground between Umuihim and Umuoparalum counterparts ended in a barren draw.
In the ensuing penalty shoot-out, the Umuhim team defeated their Umuoparalum opponents by 3-2 and thus lifted the glittering trophy with the cash benefit.
The football competition involved the women from the four kindreds that make up Umualumaku Umuihim community. The villages include Umuihim, Umuoparalum, Umudibia and Umuonyia teams. The last two teams played the third place match with Umudibia Catholic women team emerging the third place winners.
Prelude to the encounter, a Mass was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Tony Dieme, Parish Priest with Rev. Fr. Jonas Uwaezuoke his assistant.
In his homily, Fr. Uwaezuoke paid glowing encomiums on mothers for their unique role and responsibilities in the family. He called on women to emulate Holy Mary, Mother of Christ by being virtuous women.
The homilist described women as the power house of every family. He enumerated the roles of women to include rearing and nursing their children, catering for the family and even providing welfare for both the husband and the children.
Rev. Fr. Tony Dieme conducted a quiz on catechism among the various groups that constituted the CWO. His intention is to ensure that the women are abreast of the doctrines, liturgy and scriptures and be well grounded on the teachings of the Catholic Church.
THE LEADER spoke with Lady W.C. Ugochukwu, President of the Catholic Women Organization (CWO) of St Joseph Parish Umualumaku. According to her, this year’s mother’s Day is unique in so many ways. She praised the untiring efforts of the parish priest and appreciated his developmental strides in the parish.
