Let your light begin to shine from your families – Fr. Ibole advises mothers

As St. Michael’s Parish Amakohia Uratta celebrates Mothers’ day

It was another celebration galore as mothers of St. Michael’s Catholic Church Amakohia Uratta, Owerri North LGA, Imo State joined other Catholic women worldwide to celebrate their motherhood.

Welcoming the faithful at the Mass, Rev. Fr. Patrick Ibole, Vicar-General Owerri Archdiocese and the chief celebrant said: “Today, as we are celebrating mothers, we remind ourselves the dignity of motherhood and as well appreciate the roles they play in our lives”.

He welcomed the con celebrating priests, including Rev. Fr. Miletus Ohanuma, former Assistant Parish Priest.

During the homily, Fr. Ibole who reflected on the readings of the day noted that God wants His children to make good use of their time.  “As sons and daughters of light created by God you should make use of every opportunity while you are alive”.  He further observed that it is fallacious for anyone to regard him/herself as a Christian or child of God when he or she cannot keep a peaceful and cordial relationship with a fellowman.  “Our relationship with one another is like a barometer by which God weighs our endeavours as Christians”, the clergyman submitted.

Turning to the mothers, the parish priests reminded them that the history of mankind changed to good through the help of a woman (Blessed Virgin Mary), who inspite of all odds, diligently managed her home and such extraordinary show of character earned her the greatest woman ever lied, stressing that mothers should let their light begin to shine from their homes by impacting good moral values to the children.

Explaining further, the homilist gave meaning to the six letters that comprised the word “MOTHER” – Mother = Manager, O = Obedience, T = Tolerance, H = Humane, E = Endurance and R = Respect.  These words he said should remain as a watchword to every woman.

At the presentation of awards which were bestowed on some deserving mothers as part of the event, Fr. Ibole advised Christian fathers and their children to always honour the mothers by showing them love, respect and obedience.

In an address presented at the reception by the Catholic Women Organization,(CWO) President, Nneoma Chidimma Elekwa, appreciated the efforts of her members and some individuals from the male folk whom she said have been instrumental to their success.

She equally enumerated some of the achievements which included: ordination of six priests from the parish, solidarity visit to Owerri Prisons, flood control around the church premises, tilling and ceiling the church edifice, provision of church pews, among others.

At the cutting of the Mother’s Day cake, which served as the high point of the event and was conducted by CWO exco members and supported by the Parish Priest.  Lady Elekwa thanked Fr. Ibole for his availability and pledged their cooperation for effective pastoral activities.
