The LSM Metro Exco with the Arch Bishop

Speaking, the new President of LSM, Owerri Metro Council, Lady Chinedu Brown thanked the Archbishop for granting them audience. She said that the purpose of the visit was to present the new executive members of the Metro Council and to receive the blessings of His Grace for the task ahead. She also assured him that the new executive will consolidate the structure already established by the past exco.

Highlighting some of their challenges, Lady Brown noted that the population of Ladies of St. Mulumba in the Metro Council is about 2,655. Out of this number, many of their members are unable to pay their dues not because they are old but because they are either indigent or incapacitated due to ill-health. As a result the new exco intends to set up a Micro Finance Scheme with a view to reaching out to their indigent members.

She informed the Archbishop that membership of Ladies is automatic as soon as their husbands are initiated into the Order.

The President also informed His Grace of the effort the LSM is making to empower the youth.

Responding, His Grace, Archbishop A.J.V. Obinna thanked the President and the executive. He remarked that the method of admission of Sisters and Brothers into KSM shows that KSM is a family Order where members of the families are carried along. He also encouraged family cohesiveness as it is an enviable aspect of our African culture. He appreciated the fact that African women are now being given their due respect.

The prelate further admonished Ladies to be spiritually, physically and materially active in the course of their work in the church. He acknowledged the activities of the Knights of St. Mulumba (Sisters and Brothers) in CMO, CWO and other pious organizations in the Church and encouraged them to persevere.

The Archbishop also encouraged the Ladies to address the issue of cohabitation of our male and female students in the higher institutions by building more hostels for separate sexes, the issue of promiscuity of our young people has led to series of divorce cases in the society, the prelate said.

He appreciated LSM charity work to the needy and advised that it should not be restricted to the members of LSM but rather should be extended to people outside the Order and the Church.

The Archbishop thanked the Ladies and blessed them.
